Hi,

i bought this car a few weeks ago in Germany not knowing anything about the history. I hope you can help me out...
What I got:
Vin number says:
H... volare
P... premie
41... 4door Sedan
K... V8 369cui, 2bbl
6... 1976
F... Newark, Delaware

First Registration was 1977!

The decals show it as a car from the Missouri State Highway Patrol...
The equipment equipment seems authentic...

Are there any experts can telling me more? Thanks

Others here will know a lot more than I do but, a 360 (E57) in a 4 dr sedan isn't common. Most are 225 or 318. It could have been used for Police duty, yet squad cars are generally low line trim (or Police Pkg). Does it have a "Certified" speedometer? That would make it a Police Pkg.

One thing I wonder about is, I've never known cars used for Police duty to be sold with the decals and light bars still on them, so those things are suspect. All that stuff, along with any radios or other Police equipment are removed before the car goes to auction when they get rid of it. Plus, they look WAY too good to be 44 years old.

As I said though, there are others on here that know more about Police and/or Taxi cars.

You got a neat old car but... MO S.P.. used Ford (and Mercury)back then not Volares. Someone put that stuff on it. Enjoy the car for what it is, it's a neat car.

I've seen plenty of upper trimmed cars for Sherriff and Highway patrol duty. Some are unmarked and some are for upper ranking officers.

Thanks for your answers!

some informations I have forgotten to tell you:
the car is completely paint with this blue and black color, as you can see the engine compartment too but the trunk is not! The trunk is colored in original green...
The speedo is a 200kmh original... there was a discussion here too but I didn’t understand all. I’ll post a picture.

has anyone of you the possibility to watch the history of the car by VIN? Maybe it’s possible to find out where the first registration was?

the lightbar is definitely Orginal (I sax the same in a brochure for dodge police package)

I posted some pictures of cars having the same equipment like mine...
1. pic quit the same equipment
2. same lights with the same badges!
3. same speedo (maybe rebuild for export to Europe)
4. same wheels

The light bar is era correct but cars usually didn't come with them from factory. They also usually order police cars the color they want them and then paint them when they are finished with them and they usually don't have pinstriping.
While it could have been used as a police car it could just as easily be a normal Volare that someone made look like one.
Those aren't Chrysler police wheels.

Thanks for your answer.
There is no pinstriping on the car.
The car seems to have just one owner in America.
Maybe it is sold directly to Europe without putting out all this police stuff.
I wonder wy enyone shold bought a car with orignal Engine like the VIN said in greeen. Then put out the engine, color it like a police car and after all these work, dont paint the trunk. This makes no seens to me.
Otherwise a guy in Austria (that wars the cars first station in europe) could import the car as a green original one, order all the poilice stuff from America and built that car toghter (but there is alos the story withe the none painted trunk after all these work...)
So maybe the police in Missouri ordered a police car and the factory takes one from the stock an recolored it especialy for the police with equipment, becouse this was the fastest way becouse so many volare were product at that time so it was more easy to took it from the stock than waiting for a new onw like this.

what do you think?

From the pics it looks like it has pin striping on the crease across the tops of the doors and fenders. Maybe it's just the lighting.
Someone who is familiar with the state cars and mopar police cars from that time can answer better then me but usually they would have ordered enough cars that the factory would have painted it the proper color. If the police painted it they also wouldn't have taken engine out to paint under the hood.
I think we all need to see more pictures of the car and the equipment and fender tag.
It's very hard to believe the state got rid of it with all the equipment and that it is still around with equipment now.

Post a few more pics from the car...
The Vin seems removed (as you can see behind the front window... maybe becouse the sold it to Europe as a police car?)
Today I found out that the car has something like an Airride from monroe... is this aftermarket oder special handling Package?
The Cable of the antenne is A38 special order...
Thanks for your help!

Post a pick of your import/conversion tag on the pass fender and the fender tag on the drivers side under the cruise servo.

You export/import tag will have info and your fender tag may show if it was ordered by a municipality or specifically built for export.

The most common car used in 76/77 was the pontiac lemans .

And your car dont show some of the attributes of a F cop car as they werent into it in 76 but you say it was plated as a 77. But that dont mean the MSP couldnt of snagged one.

Probably shooting myself in the foot here, but post the tags and if they produce nothing and you have what looks like cop car, but with zero proof, anyone in a weekend 20 years ago could of swapped everything over.

Really I dont see anything huge in if it is or isnt or was or was not, at least not here in the USA because it really dont make the car worth more, the cop car guys will like it and the non cop car guys dont like holes and other things done with the conversion.

The tags will show when it was exported/imported and that will tell some too.

No more then 60 days ago out of Mass or Ct was a F cop lightbar and other

Here is an idea, why not email the MSP and inquire to who they have there or know of who could assist in your question. Some cops are car nerds too.

The "actual" VIN says what I posted first: HP41K6F.... The car was built in Newark. In Germany it would be not possible to by used equpment from the local police.
Don`t know how it is in the US.

fender tag on the drivers side under the cruise servo
that sounds good I will look up.
I also thougth about email the MSP...
I wrote the Motor Vehicle Bureau but they dont give me any information whithout Form 5091 (diffycult from Germany).

Hmm... Original paint was green. Wonder if this started out as a US Army Military Police car?

You're right, the equipment does look period correct but like a couple of us said that could have been easily added just like the decals.
That rear sway bar is aftermarket. The monroe air shocks you asked about is also aftermarket and at that age replacing them would make a good improvement.

Green was one of the most common color of cars back then. Possibility of being military is would be another mystery just as deep as the police part.
Maybe it did start out as a military vehicle which might also explain why it has a 360 and it was painted blue after to make it easier to sell.

With the 360, cruise, air conditioning, the better trim level with rub strips on the bumpers, and now the latest pictures also show it has power windows.. It could have been someone who really wanted a loaded Volare when they were new and was repainted at some point because someone didn't like the green. Maybe the roof is black because the blue paint got faded or sun damaged on the top surfaces and it was cheaper to paint that then the whole car.

Either way it doesn't seem to be a factory police package so if it was originally a police car it's only an interesting story with some cool era correct equipment.

I CAN say that back in the late seventies, US Army bases in Germany used green Aspen's and Volare's as base patrol cars and staff cars. They also had tan interiors. Some were equipped with the "K-9" cage divider. Whether this car started out as one of those is a mystery.

looking at your car,id say someone actually Had a severely beaten ex army cop car and decided to put everything on the fully loaded car you have now.
the power windows, the trim levels, the seats, everything screams not a real cop car.
but,you havent posted a pic of that fender tag under the hood yet soo?
i guess ill have to wait to see that first.

but,i will admit....
strange things happened back in those days...
very strange things...

This is my grandfathers retired police car. I'm hoping a collector is interested. Stored inside almost its life. It’s has been gone through by a mechanic. See the videos. If you are interested in coming and seeing it I will set up appointments. (You can set up to see the car in Erie.

also,while im thinking about it.
that cop car radio equipment you have is Usually Marked and has a serial number too.
it was usually assigned to a specific car and stayed there for life of car.
these were all kept on records for each dept/town/city.
you might be able to use those markings to figure out what car they came from originally.

You want me to be brutally honest. It's no real. There is a guy in NY/NJ that buys all the cheap $2k and under mopars (4 doors and malaise Disco Dodges) on craigslist then he uses them for film cars. He makes a shit load of money from film companies and then he unloads them in Europe to hipsters with deep pockets. What you have is a probably junkyard car or neglected barn car that was painted at Maaco and decals put on for use as a film car. If you lived in NY/NJ you could have bought this for under $2k.

That's spot on. Just look on Feebay at all the "police cars". Keep in mind, 95% of the real ones are gone or have a tree growing through them by now. If you find a real one that's worth a damn, it's not going to be cheap. There are even people stamping and selling the buck tags for them. That equipment and the decals is very easy to come by. Every nut job on the planet is buying and selling that stuff. Someone put some Feebay cop car stuff onto a green Volare and painted it, it's that simple. Enjoy the car, nothing wrong with that. If you have any doubts, write the Misery State Police and send them a pic, but I think I already know their answer.

1. You are an idiot for buying a car with no VIN plate. That means it was a junk yard car or stolen and they didn't have a title for it so they sold it over seas.
2. You have vinyl roof trim, cops would not mount the police lights and rip up a vinyl roof.
3. Cop cars have ram bars in the front they didn't use bumperettes.
4. Cops used full size Plymouth Fury's for cop cars not compact size Aspen/Volare. Your car was used for a taxi not police work...

If it brings you joy and you like driving around in stolen valor pretending to be a cop in a film car then more power to you. The guy I know has a Dealer license plate so you can legally drive cars with no titles or vin numbers.
