Most of the used police wheels I have seen for sale, are about $75-125 each. That said, I did score a set of 4, a couple of months ago, for $100 for the set but the "self done" paint job is horrible.

I just cleaned mine up with Scotch brite pads, and sandpaper. Primer helps. I think they make silver metallic epoxy paint. If not, maybe silver Plasti-Kote. Should stand up for awhile.

I also had to get rid of those wire wheel covers. But the muscle car look was not what I wanted for the old 5th Avenue

So I got me a set of cheap China dog dishes without any logo on it. Without a colour something was missing

One quick'n'dirty paint job on an old wheel with body colour shows the Mopar-correct colour choice for the rim. I didn't like that... there must be an other way

So it did it the wrong way and painted them in a dark blue that comes close to the colour of the vinyl top and the leather interoir

Luck was on my side and I found a set of correct alloy wheels, that soon needs to be shipped to Germany

Man, I didn't write in English for a long time....

I like the idea of matching the wheels to the vinyl top and interior, gives a 50s vibe. 205/75r15 is a hard size to find these days, at least it seems that way in america. Mostly a trailer tire size nowadays. I'll be running white letter m/t sportsman st 215/70r15 fronts and 275/60r15 rears. Rears should be showing up on Monday or Tuesday. I've got more money in tires than I have into the rest of the car

Got started on cleaning up my wheels yesterday. Cleaning up better than I expected, one is in filler primer already, ready to be scuffed down and sprayed black

If you keep that up, we will talk you into painting all sorts of stuff and making it nice and smooth and shiney. Prep is everything, and you're on it

Wheels are finished, and mounted up with the new tires. 215/70/r15 fronts and 275/60r15 rears. The wheels turned out great, definitely plenty good enough for a driver quality car

Looks good! The 275s fit stock rims etc!
Yeah, stock 5x7s. They clear the leaf springs by a pretty good distance (can fit my hand in between) and at full compression has about 3/8 inch clearance to the chrome fender trim. Plenty of clearance to everywhere in the wheel wells. Mine currently sits about 1" off the bumpstops in the back due to sagged leaves, so pushing it down to full compression wasn't difficult lol

Just a word of caution though. If your tire guy isn't someone that you know well, then he may lecture you about how a 15x7 is too narrow for a 275/60, since the manufacturers list a minimum rim width of 7.5. I bet that half of an inch makes a big difference in tire shape lol

Yeah, stock 5x7s. They clear the leaf springs by a pretty good distance (can fit my hand in between) . . .
You may or might not know this, but the rear leaf springs are NOT parallel to the center-line of the car (as most cars are).
The front side of leaf spring sits more towards outside of car, and rear side of leaf spring more towards inside of the car.
Most people check the rear side of leaf spring for tire clearance (more room to measure) - but the distance from front side of leaf spring to tire is where clearance is more critical.
It is many times easier to check this distance when car is on a rack - but not everyone has a rack at home (or easy access to one).

I knew that, but didn't think about it. I was looking in the back. I'll check front clearance, but I suspect it's fine

Forgot to update this thread this morning. I can just barely squeeze my whole hand in between in the front by the leaf spring. So I'd say that's ample clearance

I think if you've driven it you'd have heard or felt something if the clearance wasn't sufficient

A wide tire looks great back there. Only reason I don't stagger mine is I want to be able to rotate them. Wonder if the 275 will go up front?

Haven't driven it on these tires yet. Hopefully end of this week/beginning of next. Building my new y-pipe right now, I'm going to post a build thread of that after I finish it tomorrow. Replacing brake lines on it as well right now
