So if I replace the stock 205/75 R15 with 215/70 R15 on the stock rims will work?

Yes, I have them on mine.
Awesome thanks for the help man. The tires on mine are 23+ years old. I just got it and will not drive on those tires. The 215/70 R15 size has more whitewall options locally and surprisingly some are cheaper too.

For the record, M-body factory tire/rim sizes:

1980-83
Standard on 318 retail cars was 195/75R15, 5x6.5 rims
Squads were 215/70R15 on 5x7JJ police steel

1984-89
Retail cars were 205/75R15 (not 205/70) on 5x7J solid steel
Squads were still 215/70R15

Common practice, especially with state police agencies, was to run the same 225/70R15 on the M-body that the Caprice and LTD Crown Vic ran. These fit without issue, and actually added a few mph to the top end (taller tires).
