saved chrysler a ton of money to develope all those cars from same platform from 76 to 89, they didnt need to develope something new every few years to keep up with the trends.. and ,yes,it does help us out now trying to get certain parts

someone could take parts from a lot of these cars and make stuff the factory never did.. like a 4 door 5th ave wagon or a 2 door 5th.or use a f front clip on a 5th body that way you would get the paded vinyl roof and still look like a f body 4 door. many ways to have a lot of fun:laughing7:

Already been done... '80-'81 LeBaron. All I'd really have needed was the grille since I already had the headlamp bezels. :icon_biggrin: Besides, I've always felt the back end of the Fifth had a huge failing: the perfect spot for the license plate has that filler panel in it, leaving the license plate & guards/lamp housings a big wart on the rear bumper. I liked the '80-'81 setup better. Pontiac screwed up the '79 Firebird in the same way. I prefer the purity of line the original designs had, though the '74 Firebird taillights were a huge improvement over the '70-'73 cars. But, I digress... Remove filler, move plate. It suddenly looks like a Diplomat, which is why I imagine they did it--for model differentiation.

I doubt I'd ever really bother doing it because you're right....it has been done. The 80-81 LeBaron was pretty much just that...a two door Fifth.
But it would be cool to see one (grille and tail swap).
I've had to get used to the plate placement simply because I really like that Chrysler filler panel...

I do hear what you're saying though.

I had one with a nearly rust-free body. Converted to a 4-speed, even, with all the cop bits from my '85 Gran Fury squad car. No one wanted it when I tried to sell it for $400 since it was apart. It got crushed. If someone would've offered me $200 I would've taken it; I only got $172 at the scrapyard. But the house payment got made.

did the 80-81 Lebarons have the squared off rear window or was it more curved-sloped?

The LeBaron coupes had the same rear glass as the 4-doors in '80-'81. They used the 108" Aspolare coupe wheelbase rather than the longer WB (112"?) of the earlier two-doors. Were it not for the roofline and quarter differences, you could re-skin one as the other. You wouldn't have to change the doors, fenders (other than marker lamps) or windshield. Under the skin, it was pure F-body coupe.

All this talk about interchangeability. Will a 77 Aspen coupe hood interchange with a 77 Volare wagon hood?

And while we're at it, how about the interior? Can you swap seats from an M body into an F body?

Seats – yes.

Seat tracks – a different story.

Bench seat tracks are same for all F & M bodies.

Bucket seats, 40/20/40 and 60/40 seat tracks rank in two groups. Someone else might be able to fill in the year change, but it comes down to floor pan has a large spot for the cat converter, and therefore the passenger seat track inner rail is much shorter than driver’s seat tracks are.
I “think” the driver’s seat track (both) are the same for any 40/20/40 and 60/40 front seats but passenger side inner's are different depending on floor pan year difference.

Don’t have any data on J-body seats or tracks.

All about the cat hump and the inner passenger seat track.
Rest of the tracks are the same and interchangeable.
FWIW, I have E body Cuda seats in my F.
