Hello all... My first post and not sure if its in the right place but here goes. I have a 77 volare roadrunner clone, nice car but like them all needs a few things. One is 2 fold. I would like to replace the driver door glass due to the one I have is really bad with scratches. I can't seem to find one So I'm starting to see the rarity of this. any Ideals? So, while replacing it I need help with the window mechanizing. When I roll the window down all the way it will roll back up 3 or 4 inches. can I adjust something to fix this?
Thanks for any help you can give. Thanks for letting me belong to this site!

The mechanism sounds like it's sticking. Cleaning and lubrication would probably take care of it. Sounds like it's binding up. Just be careful with the spring loaded regulator.

As far as door glass or pretty much anything you need that's F body related please let me call your attention to one of our cherished members.

They make a kit used to remove glass scratches.
Eastwood Company: Search Results for glass scratch inproducts
There may be other brands out there, as well.

25 years ago I bought a kit from them and it looks a different than current kits do. I never did get a chance to use it, but a neighbor borrowed it (which I wonder why I never saw it again . . .) and he said it worked wonders. He also said the windshield he was working on got very hot and he recommends not spending too much time on a location for too long.

For a door glass, I recommend removing the glass and doing this on a bench. On the bench place on top of old towel(s) and a 2x4 (or something similar) in middle for support.

The window regulator has a spring on it which is designed to counter the weight of the glass (so effort to open or close glass should be the same.

I can think of two causes for the window to go back up and one would be that spring is wound too tight. The other reason is the regulator teeth/gears have excessive wear/play.

Playing with the window regulator spring is like playing Russian roulette – but all 6 chambers are loaded (in other words, it will detach body parts much like what a bread slicer does to bread).
Normal handling of the window regulator is for most part harmless.

Be sure also to recover or replace the fuzzy stuff on the 2 pieces that ride on the inside of the glass,,,,,,,,,and scratched it in the first place.
I got new door glass from a really good glass guy. It took a few months but he did find both sides and tinted. They're kind of NOS, made in the late 1980's and still in the original sewn together cardboard sleeves. Might be worth a try to see if a GOOD glass guy (best if it's a one man show who'd be more willing to search and keep on it vs Safe-Lite or other large company). You never know, he (or she) may be able to locate some new glass. Price? Mine were $125 each around 2007, so they might be higher now.

Thanks for the help Guys. First we tried a scratch remover kit not eastwoods i'm sure china kit with no luck. The scratches are deep. I 've replaced the felt where the scratches are made. Thought I found a nos glass on craigslist about 4 hours away called him and was going to leave the next day to make the trip. He calls me back to make sure I needed the passenger side. That's what it was but he listed as drivers.... did not go. but if I had I would have got it anyway asked 50 bucks for it.

As for the window it acts like the spring is wound to tight. it will turn the crank handle about 2 or3 turns back up. do I need to look for another regulator? Like to keep what body parts I have....

Yeah, those glass scratch kits are mostly intended for light scratches from years of wiper use on windshields more than tempered door glass. When those get scratched it's always much deeper and the glass is harder (if that's the word to use) so it's a lot tougher to polish.

Not 100% sure but it's a good bet. Jim is the king of F body parts from floor pans at taillights. Give him a bit of time. He'll get back to you.

I have F body coupe glass.
I dont know if they interchange with the Cordoba, the part numbers are different.
The doors look very similar though.
Maybe someone who knows for sure will share the info.

I was just whining to BudW about my d/s door glass and its worn wear items & door glass banging around in the bottom of the door. I have high hopes he could steer me in the right direction. Them glass polishing kits work well. We have an independent safelite glass dist. that works the local car lots, polishing scratches, filling chips & replacing cracked w/shields. Try any used car dealer for a phone #. It may be cheaper than DIY. And he would likely show up at your door. You may also be able to find a complete used door thats rotted or damaged cheap that will give you enough spare parts to keep you in parts the life of the car.

F and J body glass is completely different.
There is a new left side J-body door glass on ebay right now. It ain't cheap at about $400 to the door though.

Has anyone checked with one of their local glass companies? You generally have better luck with the small independent companies vs national (like Safelite) at coming up with not common ones. The national companies don't take the time to look where a good one man operation will.

When I got the new glass for my Aspen (about 6 or 7 years ago), I called Safelite and "nothing available for your car". I don't think they even checked and only heard the year and model and just assumed. Asked a one man operation and he came up with both door glass, tinted. At that time it was $125 each.

That's what I always figure. The price on things is either high or low. All depends on how bad you need it, when you need it and the chances of ever finding another one of what ever it is you need.
