Did all f bodies have a hood pop up spring? I see it on some and not on others.

My '79 had a spring when I bought it. It went missing back in the car's semi-pro street days in the early '90's and is nowhere to be found.............o_O

The '79 parts catalog doesn't show a spring so it could have been added by the original owner for some reason or,,,,,,,,,my car was built in late June '79 and has certain parts that were technically 1980 model year parts so who knows. Odd built car.

It makes sense. I've had hoods stick on my 76, the 77s and 78s. My 79 once or twice,. Then last year it would not pop for a show.... weird. A Spring would have been nice

My 77 hood sticks....until I hit it like the Fonz. I will have to check my parts cars when I get home.

On other forums, folks are utilizing a round rubber stopper from a Ford Areostar van on a 6 inch expanded spring. I'm thinking on adding it- both the spring and rubber end to prevent any hood damage.

Weird that there is a place for it but I never seen one on the earlier years. I will most likely add one too.

I just picked mine up off of the parts for sale posts on here. Another job for days off.

Wonder if it has anything to do with inside hood release or not (mine isn't and HAD a spring), the plant it was built at, the trim level, the worker on the line at the time or????????? The world may never know:confused:

I don’t remember ever seeing a Mopar without that popup spring in place – until it was mentioned in this post – which has me now thinking . . .

Your car has a lot of...umm...differences...yeah, differences...from the run-of-the-mill production!:D

Of the 40+ F's that have been thru my hands ;) only the 1980 models had the spring. 2 door, 4 door or wagon.

My car does seem to be an oddity, doesn't it? Had things that '79's didn't have like a hood spring, the weird non-rag joint steering shaft, special ordered/sold new in Rhinelander WI (80 miles north of here) built in Hamtramk but had the E24 Calif. emission 225, has 1980 rear bumper "shocks", etc.......It was 7 years old with 72,000 miles when I bought it as the 2nd owner (and the 3rd will be when I'm dead)and was stock except for the Keystone Klassics................Guess it's all a moot point now, right? lol

BTW, it has no hood pop up spring anymore ;)

The hood pop up sping worked wonders for my 77 Aspen. No more Fonz treatment to open.
