With the k member size and the torsion bar location, has anyone every measured the weight distribution of a F or M body? Are they heavier up front than the A or 63-73 B body? That impact bumper set up has to be a bit of an anchor out there in the front.

Interesting question, I'll have to try it out with my '88 5th Avenue on the scale at my work. I'd imagine the weight would be between the A- and B-body front ends because the B-bodies had a lot of sheetmetal up front. Remember the impact bumpers were/are also on the back of the car which kind of evens it out.

I have no data to go by – but I’m thinking 60/40 or maybe more (like 65/35, maybe).
The engine/transmission makes the difference.

I'm with BudW. I vaguely remember somebody on another board weighing their car and getting around 60/40

I got my 68 Barracuda streeter, up to 47% rear weight bias, once, at 3272 car-only. .That would be 1734 pounds on the front. This includes the P/S, P/B systems, which I'm not giving up,lol.
I'd have to lose 200 pounds off the front to get down to 50/50.

If someone gets some accurate figures, post it (along with year, make, model and how your vehicle is equipped (ie: A/C, P/S, etc.), please.

I bought an Aspen wagon that was stripped of non-essentials, but still legal for the Stock class. Back seat was out. But I was surprised that it was about 3-400 lbs nose heavy without extra ballast, race-ready w/driver! But I didn't want to keep it in the lighter, more populated H & I/SA so it's ballasted now to J/SA. Previous owner didn't have the back seat anymore, which I heard weighs a good bit. I don't remember if I made it to 50/50 but I'll have to check when I get it running again.

Wow, I wouldn't thought that front-heavy! I was thinking of getting one of those for my 367. I was thinking the back would be heavier,to help in street traction. I don't really want to ballast it for street.
That's why I ended up with a Barracuda FB, cuz it looked heavier back there than the Duster/Demon swb cars. Best I could do in street trim, me not in it was 1983/1628 rear, total 3611. That would be 45% rear. This was on a hi-way scale, so not sure how accurate at those light weights. 3611, me not in it seems pretty heavy.
I tracked it at 3467, and it went 93 in the 1/8. The Wallace calculator says this is 433hp. I don't think that little 367 has that much in her.But I guess I could be wrong, lol.
My guess is Barracudas are just tanks, compared to the Duster/Demons.
The above numbers say my front end is 355# heavier than the rear, so Ima thinking the Aspen wagon is not gonna help me.
So it's back to looking for a Signet wagon.I wanna de-tune my engine some, but not willing to give up the P/W

Thx for posting that tidbit

Keeping the back seat would have helped. But it was already out. I've always run a battery in the trunk of my Dart Sport, which helped the better weight distribution. But the Aspen has to have one up front per NHRA rules. After putting in a fuel cell and ballast box in the spare tire well under the floor hatch, there wasn't room for an allowed 2nd battery, which couldn't be heavier than the front one. Wagons are just a big empty box out back, at least the F-bodies. I never talked to anyone about what they found with older wagons, especially the ones with a 3rd row seat. Good luck!

My 76 Volare Coupe, 440, 727, 83/4, full cage, glass hood and front bumper 3280lbs with full tank of fuel. I removed the crash bars from the doors and used a large hole saw under the door pads. I saved about 25 lb a door.
Two large batteries in the trunk and I left the complete rear bumper intact for ballast. I also use the largest rad that was available for an F body, the car is street driven.

For all my efforts the car is 300lbs lighter than stock and 220lbs nose heavy.
