Don't think I've seen cab over semi on the road for over 30 years. Chrysler got into trouble by poor management decisions mostly, which included letting quality slide, among others. That era wasn't kind to other car companies either.

    383/400 swap?

For reference, the 440 (actually 500) in my Aspen. With a low rise intake, and 1/2" carb spacer, the air cleaner wing nut JUST sticks into the scoop opening. Don't have enough time at the moment, but will try and answer some of your questions tomorrow.

    Optional Rear Shoulder Belt Documentation???

My '79 Aspen owners manual mentions that rear seat shoulder belts "are available from dealer". Says and shows nothing else about them. Doubt I will ever find it but remember reading that mounting points for them are present. As I recall, they worked like the '68-'69 front shoulder straps...

Oh, it WAS warm and sunny for awhile here also, with zero snow on the ground for over more than a month. Not so much now......... No cars out yet though. Still salt everywhere and the salt dust almost does more damage than when it's wet and slushy.

    Well This Sucks!!

That was a Ford advertising thing. I was a Ford tech from 1985-2007 and our saying in the shop was "Quality is Job 5, maybe 6" lol. Car quality was way down in the '70's for all makes. Then they slowly got better,,,,,up until 15 years ago. Then it all started going back down into the dumper...

continued speedometer troubles. do i need it recalibrated?

This is my thought. Could be the speedo was 10 mph off in the car it came out of. The only thing that would cause it to be off (provided the car has the correct speedi drive pinion) is the speedo itself. What I mean is, if the 85 speedo was correct, and the 125 isn't, the only thing that...

    Well This Sucks!!

I swear I read something about the tack welded nuts a quite awhile back. Seems the nuts would come loose for some reason. Can't remember if it was just done at the factory on all FMJ after a certain date or just AHB, or if it was some sort of recall. I can't recall, lol. My late (June 23rd) '79...

Problem with the plugs is the depth of the threads, they're only about 5/16". Like 4 or 5 threads. There's just not enough holding the plugs. You're right, incorrect torque will make it worse, but they blew out on new vehicles that were 6 months old with 5,000 miles so.......Worst part was...

I replaced many of those intakes with the updated/recall ones. The plastic coolant cross over would crack behind the alternator. Frame rot, I concur, lol. Actually haven't seen one of those in years. They all sort of just rusted away...... The other annoying problem with the 4.6 (and 5.4 2V)...

Error in Wiring Diagram M-Body Hazard switch?

Tilt column is Saginaw and uses a GM signal switch (including wiring) which is completely different from Chrysler. Compare a '79 LeBaron switch with a '79 Caprice. They look exactly the same, other than possibly wire colors.

    Torque converter suggestions

The only suggestion I have is, try to find out where the converter is remanufactured. What I mean is, avoid ones made in China (if that's even possible.....).

    Slant 6 Won't Start

When an engine that started before it was worked on won't start afterwards, ask what changed. What I mean is, first suspect is one of the new parts. Remember, new just means new, it doesn't mean good. In the past few years that statement has become more and more true, unfortunatly.

    R body wipers

Your Gran Fury uses a plastic cam assy on the motor bell crank. Appears to be missing or broken in the photo. It's most likely the original failure since they break apart after 30 or 40 years. The parts are available, just have to be sure you get the correct ones. IIRC, there's 3 or 4 different...

Misfire when light throttle and sparks fouling - Help needed

It could affect the timing reading if the outer ring has slipped, puting the TDC mark in the wrong place. What may look like 10° BTDC, maybe is actually 5° ATDC (just a random example). It'll cause an incorrect degree reading when using a timing light, but won't directly cause a misfire.

    Dual Exhaust or Big Single

Thank you! At first it had Super Dynomax mufflers. Sounded nice but the interior drone was unbearable. Swapped to Dynomax Ultra Flo Welded mufflers. Drone is gone, but they are louder than I'd like. Added Vibrant Performance bottle style resonators behind the flex pipes up front. They toned...

Misfire when light throttle and sparks fouling - Help needed

Way back in '83 I had an instructor at tech school always say "new just means new, it doesn't mean good" How true that is nowdays, unfortunately. When I was a Ford tech, many times the service manual would say "substitute known good part". It did not say new part. Sorry for getting off topic of...
