Hello, Jim here…went to get a mechanical fuel pump today for my 360, fellow at the parts store asked what year the engine was, told him I would check with the fellow I bought the engine off of..previous owner told me he believed it is a 1971 but to make sure to check the numbers on the passenger side of the engine, I did and the last two numbers were 70 so I presumed it was a 70, but from my understanding the 360 wasn’t in production until 1971..am I missing something…your feedback is much appreciated…thanks, Jim…

Would have been cast in ‘70 for the ‘71model year. Chrysler was notorious for things like this. My uncles ‘70 Duster has a ‘69 cast in the #s matching drivetrain.

Yes, '71 was the 1st year for the 360 but the model years start in late Aug/early Sep of the previous year (which I always thought was odd). Example, my 1996 Dakota was built Aug 15, 1995 so anything with a date code says 1995.

Question number two, just got off phone with Summit about the mechanical fuel pump…two pumps, stock replacement 50.00, Edelbrock high flow 220.00, the fellow I got the engine off of ran an electric fuel pump, talked to him today and told him I was running a mechanical fuel pump he he said if I run the mechanical to make sure it is high flow..my engine is roughly 400 horsepower if I need the high flow I will get it but if it’s throwing money out the window and the stock unit will work fine I will go that route…my carb is a new Edelbrock AVS2 800 cfm..let me know your opinions on this…thanks, Jim..
