So you have a glove box door and you want to replace the cover or latch first flip it over like this you will notice a access hole on the bottom of the latch a red arrow shows you what I am talking about..

now I will show you what is going on with releasing the knob from the latch so the front and back panels can come apart.

Ok so this latch is out already so I can show you better what I am talking about. to release the latch there are two things you must do.. first in the access hole you will need to depress this pin and hold it in you can use a small punch or a drill bit what ever will fit in there and press the pin in. (the screwdriver is pointing to the pin)

While you are pressing the pin in flip the door over and you will see a very small hole. Ever wonder what it is for?...it is so that you can insert a wire to hold the pin. once the wire is inserted you will not need to hold the pin in with your punch or drill bit anymore. I used a guitar string....because I rock :icon_super:

now if you did it right all you have to do is pull on the latch not the knob and it will come apart with out breaking. To reassemble do the same in reverse. Hope this helps because the front covers can be fragile.

Here is a better picture of the hole to access the catch pin. you insert the punch there.

Your timing is impeccable.
I'm picking up a new door for my Fifth Ave and was wondering how I could keep it keyed the same....now I know.
Thank you!

In the case of a locking latch, I believe the key takes the place of the wire.

Out of 80+ cars, I've never actually had one without a locking glove box.

You are correct Sir.
My key will replace the guitbox string
But I never did know how to get those tumblers out.
