What years of the f body RR’s had the running bird decals from the factory? I know my 80 has none. I have seen them on 76 thru 78, but not on 79 and 80. What say you?

79 & 80 did not have bird decals. I have read that the deal Chrysler had with Warner Bros. For the character was a 10 year deal, 1968 - 1978.
I bought my 79 new, and it didn’t have them, but I put them on. Still have the car 41 years later.

Thanks bbeep79. Cool car. I have heard the 10 year deal mentioned before but 68-78 would be 11 model years. Anyone with 76 thru 78 have any insight?

The '68 Road Runner came out mid year (after January '68) - but that is only half of the answer. If the cars came out new in '67, that would have been 12 years.

I have no idea as to the answer - but I suspect someone goofed when 10 years came about.

Maybe they tried to keep the bird decals going, hoping maybe nobody at WB would notice? Probably not but, you never know.:D

The Road Runner coupe RM21 was available for the beginning of the 68 model year with the earliest SPDs from July of 67.

The hard top RM23 was released in January of 68 as well as the Super Bee coupe WM21.

I got some clarification on this topic over on the road runner only site. When Chrysler made the deal with Warner Brothers for the 5 color image of the RR it was indeed for 10 years. The 5 color bird started in 69 and went until the 78 model. 68 had a completely different black and white bird, and the 79 and 80 had none. All the rest (69-78)had the 5 color bird image in the standing version, and/or the running version.

i was under the impression both the stripe and bird were original to the car. what information do you have that conflicts. i plan on an accurate resto of this car and don't want to screw it up

Looks great. Wow. I like the white/red combo. So i think what i'll do is carefully sand and look for evidence of a repaint. I had wondered why i didn't have the stripes described by the dealer brochure....though i gotta say, i kinda like the stripes and bird decal on mine.

No way!!! Thank you so much for sending me this. You had one helluva hunch. I would've never considered these were available. I definitely think i'll be putting these back on. Original motor is long gone anyway.

Thats great. More luck then not, but who cant use a bit of luck these days? If by chance they are off in size you have perfect ones to scan and have printed to scale.

Is your body stripe three colors separate or on solid tape? It looks almost like three separate stacked. If that is the case you might look into having a roll of three color but one tape made since technology has came along way since then.

i just checked, they are three separate stripes. whoever laid the stripes and placed the bird decals did an insanely nice job on the spacing

What is your paint code? Ive been trying to find a home for some top quality at the time dark brown poly, even to the point ive used some just to paint things that need painted, like a wooden work bench, a shame to waste good quality semi rare paint.
