This is a long shot, but my 1978 Aspen Police car HAD dual exhaust a long time ago, and as you might expect I had to replace it when it got crappy and I just used what I could get...nobody had the dual exhaust parts then and I didn't have the time to make it. I was driving the car daily back then and just wanted it on the road without exhaust fumes in the car. I did have the factory parts book showing the whole thing and was eventually going to re-create it as closely as possible with the weird rear sections.
I lost the parts pages that had them and was hoping someone has a copy of this page. I really want to get this back to the way it was and that exhaust system bugs me. Thanks in advance.

The pdfs of the parts books floating around should have it. The service manual has pretty good diagrams of it also.

The police car exhaust systems were hard to get parts for, even back in the '80's.

I don't have an '78 FSM, but here are PDF's from my '78 parts manual.

I need to do some digging but they never came with a true dual exhaust. They ran 2 bigger pipes that connected just before the gas tank and then joined together into a single 2.50 pipe with muffler. I had pictures I took at a junkyard of one that had fallen on it's side and the exhaust was obvious. I didn't pull it because it was not true duels.

This is a photo from the 79 parts catalog for the dual system.

Seams like 3.5 inch pipe would more than cover the needs of a warmed up small block but the idea of single exhaust sucks.

I have no problem bending all of that. I doubt if any of it is available anyway. I can get the resonator and possibly the hangars. Now that I am older and have more time, having it look correct actually matters.

If you look under the car, it's pretty easy to see why they did it this way. If it weren't for the resonator, they could have stuck twin tailpipes right out next to one another. It almost looks like that was the plan and then they decided against it and turned it single at the last minute. It would probably be easier to keep them dual and run them side by side right out the back next to each other where the resonator used to be, but that would look like a Mustang II or something. I could easily do that, but.... I do want it back to factory, and I think I have some of the hardware still. Bending it is a breeze. Wish I had kept it but back then I had no desire for that stuff taking up room

I don't have part 6. I can bend and braze or tig
I have to look some more. I think I still have those weird clamps and the smaller stuff in a box with the spotlights, the lean burn and the other crap
