This should be fun for all the fender tag sleuths.
I can't seem to find a reliable source to decoding this, everything I come across does not help me figure out a full understanding on this tag. The underlined ones I simply cannot find at all or have a description for 70-71 cars. This is not really important but more of somthing that would be cool to know or maybee find somthing I didn't know. Any and All help would be appreciated.

A couple of the codes.

GH22 is (G) Diplomat, (H) Price class high, (22) 2 door B-Pillar hardtop.

G8G is(G) 318, (8) 1978, (G) plant code St. Louis

The P89,s are upper body color and lower body color, which is? Don't know other than I assume dark blue metallic.

Thanks aspen500! That last bit was staring me in the face and laughing, its the vin # smh.
Finding some of these codes is like being a cold case detective.

I'm sure someone else on here can decode the other things on the tag.

As you found, you'd think Chrysler didn't build cars beteeen 1974 and 2005 or something, and didn't build trucks until 1994, and Dakota's until 1997.

I have the same car and nice to see yours. Here are a few notes from the Spares manual and hope it will help you off. Just ask me anything as I have a complete spares book! My car has the codes as per picture 3

Fender tag fun. One decoder site I tried said it couldn't find any info on a 1962 Chrysler, mine's a 1988 Fifth Avenue. Only other code I found says I have the 31TH transmission. I think I did find the MFS41 too. Who are you all using to decode these?

Nice! These cars are rare over here. I can't even recall seeing any of these on the road. I can't imagine how almost unseen they are over there.

That's the issue, it's all jumbled and does not jive from one site to another. Smh. I guess it's fun.

Yes it is a very rare model and I better stick to it making it looking better and better with some small improvements like cleaning up the engine room for example. Shining up the valve covers, engine with blue and so on. She runs and drives well and indeed very litte rust!

Of course you're not going to find those codes in a '70/'71 book. You're dealing with an '88 Diplomat!

Paint code is PB9 not P89. PB9 is starlight blue sunfire metallic
Trim code F4B3 not F489. Split back bench seat with center armrest in blue.
000 is the interior trim paint code. Since your car doesn't have any visible painted trim inside the code is 000
616 is the body frame date. IT IS NOT the car's build date!!!!!!!!! I don't know why people can't get this straight.
B41 Power front disc/rear drum brakes.
K5B body side stripe in blue.
M31 Belt moulding on the door and quarter panel
B3M Landau Vinyl Roof in blue.
CW 4810 is the vehicle order number. There's no cross referencing this to anything.
U 1 Built to U.S. Specs
W37 unknown.

I like your car with blue paint. Green was my Harley 750 ccm I had in 1966 -1973 with a sidecar. I have stocked up my Diplomat
with spares bought in US from Rockauto.com Excellent service and prices very low compaired with what I pay in Scandinavia. Still missing
some parts for my sliding sunroof. The seals are difficult to find.

About VINs. I can't find anything that decodes the sequence number (last 6 numbers of a VIN)! It's my understanding that those 6 numbers can apply to options and not just the "sequence" it came off the assembly line!

In some cases, usually with the pre 17 digit vins? the first couple numbers can sometimes say a model line or plant but not more then that.
They usually say the number more relates to ordering sequence, not build sequence.
