I haven’t dropped the pan just yet but, I’m pretty sure it’s the bolts causing all the issue. Some of them were pretty thin and rusted between the backside of the head and threads. Probably stretching more than they are clamping at this point. Sealed up fine 5 years ago when I did a band adjustment but, no luck this time. 34-35 years for a oil pan bolt on a daily in, Chicago is a pretty long time.
I should just be happy they don’t snap when I take them out again.

Maybe have a couple of helicoils at hand when you drop it. Lost a couple days with my A100 when I had to change the extension at the shift lever inside...
Its just aluminium, so, easily losing a thread.

Since my trans pan has now sprung a leak for the 3rd time in the last month (Right Stuff gasket maker was still the wrong stuff, lol) figure it’s time to put the rusty pan in the scrap bin and get a deep pan on there. Should be here in a few days…now I’m officially “that guy” with the old car and the gnarly oil stain/s in the driveway. Before it was just the old car, lol. Looks like someone tried to bleed my baby dry in the driveway.

I see you got the spacer for the filter.
I ordered a original filter for a 42RE after reading a guy on another forum used it on his Cuda and was happy with it.
Haven't tried it yet, because I'm currently working on my rear end.
I cheaped out on the pan and got the Dorman tho...

I can’t imagine the spacer making a terrible difference, particularly without a trans cooler for there to really be a difference in fluid temps once everything is hot and at operating temp.
I have a trans cooler I’d like to install at some point, maybe whenever I get around to actually rebuilding the trans. It will happen. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but, someday, lol.

I can't remember what the last filter was I used. I don't mind the normal ones.
The spacer is just to pick up fluid from the bottom of the deeper pan. Otherwise it's not. taking advantage of holding any more fluid.
One of mine has a deeper pan. No idea what's inside it.

Brand X project: my grandfather's old '92 F150. Replacing rotted fenders and core support right now. Keeping busy.

Progress. Going to need to play around with the fender alignment. Installed the new condenser and door latches too. Next is the shocks and tie rods. Dumped probably $1500 into this old rusty truck so far. When this gets done I'll drive it for the summer and pull the bed off over the winter to work on the back end. Thing needs a limited slip bad.

Nice inline 6

I gave a lot of thought to plucking it out and doing a V8 swap, but in the end I decided to keep it in there along with the E4OD transmission. Holley makes an aftermarket ECU that will also control the trans I'll be swapping to next year. Eventually the 4.9L is going to see boost in some form. Thinking about an Eaton M112 with an Aussie Speed manifold. Would certainly be different.

On the plus there's so much available for those trucks unlike Dodge.

So far I haven't had to make use of the aftermarket. All the replacement sheet metal is from Texas. I can't believe the condition this stuff is in. Do they even know what rust is down there?

Any interest in some AOD parts? I don't know what the interchange is for the EAOD for the accumulator/servo. I've got two AODs just laying around, and a brand new remanufactured torque converter, that I couldn't find any buyers for at $150 for everything. I couldn't even give away a 302 for $100 locally.
