Would one of you guys call on this car and ask the right questions about what's wrong with the engine for me?
I'm thinking of getting it for my husband, but need to factor in a fix, repair, or replace of the engine.
I'm out of my league on this.

I can't help with the inspection, but it might be an idea for you to call him and ask exactly what "piston busted" means? How does he know the piston is busted? Was the car running when the piston broke? Is the piston seized (i.e. engine won't turn over (by hand, obviously))? Did the piston break? Are the rings broken, or did a connecting rod break? In any case, trying to turn the engine over by hand would give some indication (i.e. if the engine does not turn over, something is seized), and then follow up with a borescope inspection. Even so, the engine will probably need a tear down to assess the full extent of the damage, depending on what the current owner says.

That is really a cool car though. Very nice condition, and very low miles.

I’m behind on forum post reading and just now saw this post.

I clicked on the link – and the posting was deleted by owner.
That said, I can’t comment.

I wonder if the Buick Invicta eventually became the Electra (then Electra 225, then the Park Avenue)? The Invicta seems to be the top of the line Buick sedan, which later on was the Electra from memory. Later on, Buick had the LeSabre and Centurion sedans as well.

The original 50s LeSabre concept car was a real departure from anything that seen in the 1950s. The Lincoln Futura was as well, be eventually, everybody has seen that car in a slightly different form as as the Batmobile in the 1960s TV show.

I couldn't swing the deal.
By the time I paid to have it shipped here and have the engine fixed, I'd need to put up a garage to hold it. I'd be upside down on my finances.
Sure wish I had bought it, but it wasn't in the cards for me right now.

I figure I'll keep saving my money, finishing up current projects and when the market turns bad folks will start selling some of their rides to pay bills.
Then I'll pick up a nice ride.
Besides, I can't justify a garage until I have the last of the walls finished for the house. Sigh

lol

You are so right...

This week we had
Monday morning -- 10 1/4 inches of rain (it rained heavy and for many hours)
Tuesday morning -- 1/2 inch of rain and mud everywhere -- you just sink
Wednesday morning -- 2 1/2 inches of rain -- garden is so overgrown

Finally Thursday morning only a sprinkle.
So at 6:30 a.m. I'm out at the pump house pulling filters and replacing them so the water pressure in the house returns to normal and I can spend the afternoon doing laundry (bleh!).

Notice there is no mention of vehicles anywhere in that agenda...

I got off of work at 8pm Monday evening and went to catch up with rest of family to get dinner and watch fireworks. I arrived, ate a few bites of my sandwich, and along came a gully washer.

Friends took my wife and kids there, so all four of us piled into my station wagon – in a hurry (note: it was mostly dark at this time). The inside of wagon was roughly 100’ F (38’ C) for car had been sitting in the sun all day, and outside was about 75’ F (24’ C) at the time. Sense the wagon never had A/C – I couldn’t get the windshield completely un-fogged – which wasn’t as much of a problem as not seeing where you were going to begin with due to the heavy rain.

I finally pulled off at a gas station to let storm go pass by – then it started to hail for about 10 minutes on us.

There was so much water coming down, the 3 cowl vents could not clear the water fast enough, so I had water coming up and over the air horns (in the cowl) and water was just pouring into the floorboard via vent flaps.

Ended up with about an ½” of water on drivers and about 3” of rain on passenger side floorboard – which I shop vac’ed out and started to air out on the forth.

Wife wasn’t happy when she saw the rain water running right into her purse, that night.

Sounds like I might be changing out the carpet, sooner than later . . .

The news station said we got 5-½” of rain that night. I don’t know that I agree with that figure.

Note: for those not familiar with the cowl air horn(s) visit this link Heater box removal , A/C 1980 F body Post #12. Cars without A/C has air horns on both sides of (inside of) cowl.
