Hi, I am new to this site, some may know me from a different site. I am seeing the light at the end of tunnel on my 76 RR project that I bought in '09 from another F Body enthusiast some might know, this car was smashed bad in the back and hit in the front too. Well I had the body work done, then painted it myself, now I just installed a 318 & 4 speed. I am at the point where I need a fuel tank to make this thing run...alas the tank was destroyed in the accident so I have no fuel tank at all. I wanted to stay away from a fuel cell and go original, but I know the hump tank tanks are hard to find, if anyone has one to sell, it would be much appreciated.

I installed the engine and tranny last weekend, got the headers and carb bolted on but I still have to button it up and get in running, need to install exhaust, distributor/ wires, radiator/hoses, hook up shifter, put fluids in everything, AND fuel! I have no fuel! ....this 318 is just temporary until I can build the 360 I have for it. I pulled this engine out of my '76 Aspen SE....

A very sweet looking Road Runner!

Those ’76-early ’77 fuel tanks are not being Repop’ed, yet,

I have a good one in my ’77 wagon I will be replacing (in a couple of years). I will be upgrading the trunk pan to the newer design (no hump) fuel tank and much larger trunk pan – but that will be a couple of years down the road, still.

Oh, I have a 77 Aspen hump-tank too, I think, I'll go check.
Yeah I do, I remember taking it out of a 4-door.
The outside is quite rusty looking, but the inside is all shiny except for one corner where there is some varnish accumulation. There are also a few dead bugs in there. It comes with the sender installed,a top vent, and it looks like the grommet could be reusable. Sorry; no straps, and no filler tube.

The outside rust is not an issue, and I have a filler neck and straps, just the tank from this car was crushed in the accident. I assume the 4 door tank is the same as the coupes? Will send PM, thanks!

Well, did a bunch of little things. Tried to hook up the clutch linkage, I have never worked on a 4 speed and had no idea how it went together, I think I have everything together now, mocked up, I seem to be missing some small parts like the bushings that go in the z bar and the rubber washer thing for the clutch fork, but everything seems to be in the right place & I have some clutch pedal. Also hooked up all the shifter linkage and seem to be able to go through all the gears including reverse ok. I also installed the driveshaft (missing one bolt for the yoke ugh) and I mocked up the dual exhaust that came off my Aspen, looks like its going to fit and bolt up just fine (wasn't sure with different headers). This exhaust dumps before the rear diff, not my favorite style and I hope to switch it in the future, but its almost brand new and its what I have. As I remember in the Aspen, dumping the exhaust there can lead to exhaust fumes in the car, its not ideal...I made a punch out list to get this thing running and it is still quite long, but its just a matter of poking away at the list...

I might have those missing parts too, as well as the tank
Well except for the rubber deallio, I never use those but rather a metal swivel. There should also be a small spring pulling the fork to the bellhouse. You can see the hole or slot on the fork, and a similar anchor point up by the starter nose. I engage that end first from the tranny side. This pulls the TO bearing off the fingers and keeps the junk from rattling. You get any old spring at the jobber, and make it fit; it doesn't have to be very strong.I don't think I have one. Also a fancy clip to locate the Z-bar and keep it from sliding around.

Got the clutch linkage all assembled properly now and the clutch adjusted....feels great! Turns out I didn't need to use the brand new bushings I found in the box, I found the old ones in relatively good shape sitting on top of the frame rail just below the Z bar, felt them there when I dropped one of the new ones lol

76SassyGrassVolare, do you have your lower bell housing pan close by?

I have one that I “think” is a small block – but don’t have any bell housings to find out what my pan fits. All I need is some measurements off of yours, please.

Thank you,
BudW

Last night I cleaned up the exhaust system I am using, had this made for my '76 Aspen in like 2007 and it was only on the car for a couple months and maybe 200 miles before I dismantled the car. It is not the ideal set up, I am not big on dumping the pipes before the rear diff, but I have it sitting right here and I don't have anything else right now. I just coated the collectors with Eastwood high temp satin black ( they were not galvanized or stainless). I found one collector gasket about 2 weeks ago but couldn't find the other one, was about to buy new ones, then found the other collector gasket in the trunk of the Aspen... like I looked in there 100 times but alas there it was like it just appeared, how does that happen?? Anyway I already test fitted this exhaust and it bolts right up to the headers perfectly... maybe I will get this on tonight...that will be another thing off the punch out list and one step closer to ignition!

Here are some pictures of my lower bell housing cover – which I suspect is for a small block (but not 100% sure).

I dunno mine looks physically different, the measurements are similar though, I dont know much at all about manual Mopar trannys, maybe it is from a different manual not an 833 or maybe a different year or something , but the holes are not the same, looks like your three are in a straight line and also the two front hols are set back further from the front lip. Perhaps someone else has some insight? I took these last week, I have since installed this on the car.

I know /6, big blocks and small blocks are different.
There might also be differences between years and transmission types as well.
Whatever I have, it doesn’t match yours.

Thank you for looking!

By the way, what color did you paint yours?
