Parting out 78 R/T body

It had the 26 inch radiator. Which the sides fell off of when I removed it. It is a manual radiator so no trans cooling built in.
I wasn’t looking for radiator.
My wagon will be converted to A/C (one of these days) and part of that process is to convert my existing 18” radiator to a 26” one.

To do it correct, it requires replacement of the two metal plates (painted body color) located on both sides of the radiator that is welded onto the core support.

To clarify, H & N are F-body and F & G are M-body.
R, W, X & S is B-body, so not applicable here.


There is a couple of other ways to accomplish what I want to do.
One version is to get out the Sawzall and start cutting away, then drill new bolt holes.

Another version is what another fellow forum member did. He made adaptor brackets which he attached his wider radiator too. This method works as well – but the entire width of radiator is not used.

You can see the plates outlined in white, here. His hand-made brackets for radiator are black in color.

Sense I will be stripping the engine compartment and interior of car down to replace the firewall (for A/C) and to convert car to a manual transmission (transmission hump and crossmember modifications), my thought is to fix this, as well.

Yes I still have the Aspen R/t,,, and I`m looking at another friday morning,, So I may own a second,,one will end up a parts car

I`m using a 360 with a mild Hughes Whiplash cam,,A 904 trans and a 81/4 sure grip, nothing too over the top a nice crusier, that has a sweet sound

It has headers,, the rear end is a 3.55, so nothing exciting,, no slicks, as this is a street car,just a set of G-60x 14 cobras on back with f70s on front,, just a fun toy. This is my forth F-body,, I bought a left over 76 r/t,,back in 1977, which I really loved,, that car got totaled down in Virgina, While on vacation, In the years since, I`ve owned two diff 77`s, and I`ve owned this 80, since 91,,and tomorrow I hope to add a 79 to my toy collection

Awesome! Your 80 really runs respectably I bet. Carb are you using? I do have 76-77 one piece spoiler up for grabs if anyone is interested

I did remove the radiator support at the spot welds if you are interested in it.

I did remove the radiator support from my RT but don't need it as my other car already has a 26" opening if you are interested in it.

Exactly what I’m looking for.
Actually, I don’t need the top part – but it is easier to remove and reinstall with it still attached.

On the picture, above. The two grill brackets, the center upright and the horizontal plate is not needed, and they can be unbolted to make the item more flat and easier to ship.

I do recommend you keep the horn. They do go out from time to time and are getting harder to find.

I see the car was a no-A/C car.
Did it have the 18/20/22”, or the 26” wide radiator?

And,
Do you have the Left side under dash vent available?

I wasn't thinking right on the fender. I do need to keep it as the 80 has different fenders on it. I will have a complete 1980 front clip available including the grill soon if anyone is interested
