I had one robo question on the Car Guuru's site ad, but that is it. No calls from the various fliers on the big sale bulletin boards at work. I am thinking people see it and think it is too pretty to daily drive at this time of year, and people who would go to car shows have put their toys away for the season, and will not be thinking about a car show toy until next Spring. I even put my 2001 Wrangler on Car Gurus this past Monday, and only 20 people have looked at it. That is less per day than Darth-Car gets. It's a crazy market.

Are you finding everyone thinks its great but don't what to pay for it?
Well I really don't know what anybody thinks about either vehicle. I have both posted on the outside of my cue at work, and all of the car guys who come by say they are both beautiful machines, and are really priced right. They are convinced that just the right person who appreciates the quality will come around eager to hand over their cash for these well kept machines. What I need is the "real" interested buyer to come up, and make an offer, then I will have a way to judge the market, and what people want to spend. Even the asian fan boys say they would gladly pay what the listing price is for either ride if they had the need. So I am at a loss where the true buyers are. The only thing I can say I think I have done a good job of keeping away the low balling "looky-Lu" crowd. They can see by the quality, and the way that I have these vehicles priced that I will not play their low ball game. Thank goodness for small favors.

As nice as a car it is I think it comes down to price. I see them come up very nice within a few hundred miles of me in the $2500 area but im cheap because I had a nice one at one time I paid $900 for.
It looks really nice with alot done, id try to find a way to keep it. But not that uncommon for the FMJ people to find how narrow the demand is for really nice cars that would go along way vs what even a new low end pos costs.
Not like there are tons listed for sale currently.

But I also know of three nice kit cars, one 10k, one 12 and one 14 and they dont/havent sold either.

Your points are all well taken. Here is the strange thing, since it has been listed there have been three others that have come, and gone. One was $1,900. The next was $3,600, and the last $7,900. The interesting thing is they were all being sold by flippers who had no information about the cars, and several of them looked really rough. Yet they are gone, and Darth-Car is still here. I think too it has to do with location in the country. Smack dab here in the midwest I just can not get a looker; and those who are looking don't want to pay the shipping. So I am thinking it is a matter of what the general audience will take, and they are not looking.

Have you thought about giving it a run on ebay, it just takes one person that likes it and has the extra coin at the moment.
Maybe since the flippers dont list alot of info you could just mention ALOT has been replaced and be very general and let them ask for more info.
Hell , I dont know, the cars nice, someone should want it at some point. Just like many here if id not so much going with other things Id consider it.

As an active shopper right now, I can talk to what is driving ME right now...maybe it will help you figure out why you seem to be getting few nibbles......
I am looking for a car for my teen son to drive as a daily driver. In particular hoping to find a Volare or Aspen. That said, I am considering ALL FMJ bodies along with AMC products and whatever else looks cool.
Among other stuff, I have to consider:
-Asking price (I too have seen many 4 doors like Darth car for sale for a couple grand, but none have been in such pristine shape as Darth!). Right now I am trying to stick to the $2-4k range budget but it all depends on what it is. Seems like your price is fair if it really is that perfect.
-Condition of car (Darth is gorgeous)
- How BIG is the car-- Can a teen driver drive it without feeling overwhelmed??
-Issues car is known to have (Seems like none?)
-Issues car MAY have based on pictures/description (Ditto)
-How long has it been sitting (seems like it is used enough to keep things from going bad)
-Is it state inspected for my state ? (no)
-Is the car "cool". (yes- ITS A MOPAR!!!!!)
-Does my son like it. (I think he might -- I do--- ITS A MOPAR!)
-Engine? Looking for inline 6 --teen driver ya know...mileage and speed as considerations? (NO V8s)
(As an aside, I HATED being subjected to the "no v8 " thin gwas I was young......HATED it. But looking back, it was probably in my best interest. And now its my turn to dictate that policy....oh I hate myself....LOL)
-Is the car easy enough to get parts for and what parts are needed from the start. (no worse than a Volare...LOL)

He drives great and had had professional lessons, and he takes great care of everything he owns. He is borderline meticulous. But hey, he is a teen driver and to subject a car that has never seen snow and has survived this long in that nice a shape to snow and teen use, well, I would feel so bad subjecting it to that use....particularly and specifically the winter part. It would break my MOPAR heart....LOL
I feel badly enough about my son driving his patina'd 80 Volare (red_Barron) year round.

It's the same platform as the Volare and easyer to find parts for, but not necessarily easy. Mechanical parts yes, body parts not necessarily so.

When it comes to power with these cars the engine is not a factor in its stock build. The 225 slanty, and the 318 V8 power wise at the ground are almost the same. It all comes down to what is living in the pumpkin between the rear wheels.
In terms of allowing a young person to drive it, why not? These cars were meant to be driven! To many people stick them under glass as a museum item. That in my book disrespects the car. I got Darth Car from a collector. He looked great, but we spent our first 6 months getting to know each other by swapping in a lot of new parts, because I was in it to daily drive him.
Sure our winters have been mild the last 5, but before I got my Wrangler 2 years ago I drove Darth Car in the winter. I prefer the control / safety of handling that a full frame rear drive car can give you. Thanks to the original owners rustproofing Darth Car suffered no ill affects. A 4-door F and 4-door M body shares maybe 90% of all parts. All mechanical parts are the same. The dash, the exterior lamps and a few other minor details are different.
Also, most M-body’s generally don’t have the factory “rust option” installed – like all the F-body’s have.
Some M’s came with /6 but most are 318’s (maybe 25/75% ratio – but that is a guess).
I would bet someone that Darth’s car has a 2.2 gear ratio in it (but no more than a US dollar) – which is a LONG LONG way from a performance gear. I would say a /6 with 2.9 gears will out run (any) 318 with 2.2 gears, at a stoplight.
Of my two (stock) passenger cars, ‘77 wagon and my ’86 Fifth Ave. The powertrain is exactly the same for both vehicles: (318 2-bbl with A904/A999 transmission and vehicle weight is about the same). The only difference is wagon has 2.9 gears and Fifth Ave has 2.2 gears.
I would not have any problem handing the Fifth Ave keys to either of my kids – when they get of age (almost 12-year old twins).
The wagon, no – a bit more off the line power they need. The wagon will run circles around the Fifth Ave until about 30 MPH (48 KPH) – then there is not much difference on power or speed.
Now that is with both cars as is. Once I drop the big blocks in – then for sure NO.
Now if the Darth-Car has had differential gears changed – then I would be more likely to agree with you Shadango.
The only thing I do like about the 2.2 gear ratio, is I can floor the gas from a stop on ice, and not have to worry about the tires spinning (much). I only get tire spin, on ice, when driving uphill with it.
Other than that – I have nothing good to say about 2.2 (or 2.4) gear sets.

Any luck on finding Darthcar a new home? I was thinking that if you would take it to Carlisle in the spring, I bet it would sell. It's a beautiful car, and Carlisle isn't too far from Ohio. At least it would be an experience and a great drive there in a great car! Good luck!
Sorry My Friend nothing new to report. I was a day late, and a dollar short to connect in time with another forum member here, before the Holidays who was looking for some wheels quickly, and unfortunately his E-Mail request arrived to me too late. So it was not meant to be.
I have heard from another long distance fellow who was exited, but he has not called back. I am hoping he was just busy with the Holiday season.
Carlisle would be fun, or even the Grand Nationals, closer to home in Columbus; but unfortunately it is the drive there that alludes me with the new health issues. So whoever claims Darth Car will have to come to him, and drive him away.

(oh yes, I'm feeling much much better today... we had sun for the first time in forever, I didn't cough once and best of all I got the new radiator into the backhoe... going to pick up new hoses for it on Friday before the weather sets in).
