It happened. First, let me clarify that I DO NOT condone this type of activity. It put many lives at risk.

However, I will say that the dude drove the crap out of that Fifth Avenue, esp for it being a non-Police M-body. In my estimation he was a better driver than the cop.

People that run from the Police should have an automatic 10 year prison sentence added onto the penalty for the other crime(s) they committed.
I think the cop was the better driver. Unlike the low life POS he was chasing, the cop used caution at intersections and around other traffic, while the loser just sped through with no regard for others.

More than once, I've seen the local Police (city, county and/or state) stop a high speed chase with the PIT maneuver. One was last summer on the freeway that runs past my house. I heard all the sirens and got curious so went to look just in time to see a State Patrol spin the low life's car around and more or less parallel park it (backwards) against the rail. Within seconds four squad cars had him boxed in. Textbook is how I'd describe it. When the cops got out of their cars with weapon's drawn, I decided it was time to go around to the backyard, just in case.

Worse is losers that run from the cops and kill people. A few years ago in downtown Wausau, a city cop spotted a stolen car and soon as he hit the siren, the car took off full bore towards an intersection where they t-boned a mini-van with a mother and 2 children inside. Nobody in the mini-van survived. Last I know, that person was serving life in prison now.

Ok. I thought I did some insane things in M bodies as a dumb kid... but mid-day traffic high speed lane swerving while firing a gun backwards has to be some kind of record.

Policy and restraint is on the Trooper. Some methed out pill head is full rabid behind the wheel. He has nothing to lose. More dangerous than a drunk driver. The "Pit Maneuver" is controversial and not legal in a few states. The thing is, the guy in the 5th would have run down a kid on a bicycle to get away. The Crown Vic interceptors from 15 years ago had many advantages. They handle really well and have pretty good driveabilty. I would not want to even try to out run one 15 years ago. The current Ford package Taurus will catch most daily driver cars. Even the Dodge package 3.6 V6 will catch and embarrass most cars. There was a female officer in a Charger catch and pull over an exotic.

The State Patrol in this area uses Charger's but they have 5.7L Hemi's and at least one around here is a 6.4L. They don't screw around with 6 cylinders, lol. City departments and county use mainly Taurus and Explorer both NA and twin turbo versions. Give me a Mopar squad car any day! The PIT is legal here but they only use it when safe to do so, meaning only when other cars aren't near by. I still say no matter what you've done, fleeing an officer will only make it worse and 95% of the time, they will catch you. You can't outrun the radio or helicopter if nothing else.

Bad all the way around. Fifth driver obviously doesn't care about anyone but himself. But, there is no reason for this pursuit to take place at all. Countless lives put at imminent risk for what? Even if the Fifth driver is murderer or something equally as horrendous, why risk compounding it with a chase like this? Particularly on a residential two lane road! I'd like to think that in the 10+ years since this chase took place that cooler heads would prevail, but... I doubt it unfortunately.

The video is from 2008 so the cop car could have been anything from a weak suck 4.6 Crown Vic to a Hemi Charger... I'm a little embarrassed that I couldn't tell from the hood profile (never sat in either, so no point of reference) or the exhaust note. Judging strictly from the from the acceleration (or lack thereof) I'd say it wasn't a Charger.

So did they catch the baddie or did he get away? I've been driving all night so I'm kinda tired and my vision is a little blurry... did I miss the takedown?

The Crown Vic interceptors from 15 years ago had many advantages.
Not the least of which was the 5.0.
The 4.6 is an okay engine for a daily driver, it even has some aftermarket support for the Mustang guys. But there ain't nuthin' you can do to a 4.6 to make it happy about mobilizing a 2+ ton car.

I was incongruously digging the SN95 T-birds a few yrs back but finding a clean one w a 5.0 was frustrating to the point that I gave up.

I come from moonshine runners/ Smokey and The Bandit, The Dukes, American Graffiti, Blues Brothers, where taking the cops out for a run was just what you did.
My 77 Aspen was my Midnight Runner with radio blockers.

Different rules back then.
Cops had crappy 4 watt radios and cops didn't go past city limits or county limits.
Hence out running 3 depts. in one night.

Wouldn't do that stuff today,

I worked at a Ford dealership from 1986-2007 (when it closed) the only complaint I heard from officers was the Crown Vic was under powered, especially the from the state boys. Still, they (the 4.6) was way better than the early '80's CV's with a 302 (especially prior to port injection in 1984) or worse, a 351 with a VV carb. Can you say POOCH?
