Oh yeah, sounding pretty nice...I need to catch-up on your build, going to start my stroker W2 within the next couple of weeks actually!

what are your plans for your stroker W2?

mine's a mild stock stroke small block 360''.
W2's flow 286 @600 lift
621/632 lift solid Hughes cam
Victor W2 intake
true 11:1 comp
950 HP Holley

very simple budget combo. i hope to make a honest 460-480 hp

what are your plans for your stroker W2?...

I'm thinking that combo of yours should definitely meet your goals...maybe a tad more even?

For me this is about adding a little more "oomph" on the low end (for street manners: throttle response & off-idle pull) while keeping a bit of the top-end power.

So the plans are:

360" block fitted with 4" forged crank, H-beam rods, 408"
long valve econo W2, thinking I can toss a 2.05" intake and let the cam's wider LSA help with the low end duties

Cam is a Comp Cams hydraulic roller:
CRS 13084B/3039B HR 112+4, 0.548/0.545, 240/248@0.050", 290/300 adv. and on 112 LSA

That cam needs 3000 stall, 4.10 gear and 10:1 compression, which should be good-to-go for my current combo (I have too much stall actually, but that moves the car out of the hole well) which is 4k stall and 4.10 gears.

Intake same as yours, but looking to do a 10.5 static CR. Carb is my trusty Carter TQ 9800 series (electric choke).

Since the W2 heads I have are original still-in-box pieces I need to get them re-worked for 11/32 stem valves and maybe a decent valve job while I'm at it...which is why I'm thinking of going down the 2.05" intake route. Will do some mild porting at home (before & after flow numbers), at least they should beat my heavily worked over 596 castings.

Performance wise I'd like to be in low 12s with this setup. My best with the 360 motor and Hughes HE3844AL hydralic flat tappet is 13.13@105 but a 3.91 gear and same 4k converster. No traction...suspension is not setup at all for traction purposes, so that's part of a reason why I'm not too hopeful about seeing anything faster than low 12's.

i think you will see your bottom 12's. W2's are a serious head. they make good power for being an old design. they pull really hard at the top end.

i ran 12.0's with 3.55 gears and stock 1979 suspension. i had 22% convertor slippage at the top end. i had less compression (9.5:1) then you are going to run. the cam i had was a bit bigger (HTL5660AS) 572/582 lift and 256/260 @.050 Hughes solid. Edelbrock heads.

i have a brand new Hughes cam on the shelf (same as the mentioned above) if you want to upgrade.

After 2 really long years of having to look at my volare with no drivetrain, it’s finally coming together.
Lots of small things to button up but it’s very close to being finished

Sweet! It's a good feeling when a car gets to a point where you can see the light at the end of that tunnel, isn't it.

I still remember that first cautious trip around the block in the Aspen, in the fall of 2012, after last driving it in the summer of 1996. There is nothing better.:)

It’s an awesome feeling to have.

All I need to do is add fuel and it’s ready to fire up.

I bought new white light bulbs, supposed to be brighter then normal lights.

Don't forget your video camera!:)

I almost was gong to fire mine up and back it out of the garage and run it for a bit, just to listen to it, almost. Didn't want to open the door (3 degrees outside, just saying).

it's so cold up here, my daughters had 10 school days of this month for being -40*c or below.
it was way to cold to run my engine on test stand but i did it anyway. the days i ran it (3 days), it was -38*c. i put on my full winter gear on(could hardly move i had so much clothes on ), mother nature was not going to defeat me!!
