Problem is, it's pretty much impossible to remove rust, such as the inside of a frame rail because there's no way to get at it. I agree, the coatings aren't a cure all BUT, they will at least help slow the process down and also seal what rust there is from water and oxygen. No oxygen, no rusting.
My uncle always said "you can never stop rust, you can only slow it down" and he was correct.

One thing when using the internal coating, tape over all the openings except the one the tube is inserted into and make sure to put a drop cloth on the floor. It doesn't clean up off the floor very well. Not that I have any personal experience with that.;)

Well folks, I am back. Had the tumor cut off of my kidney, and I'm at home resting and recovering. I will not lie, it's been rough. Could have been a lot worse though. So I'm thankful for that. So, now that I'm home, my son decided to go out and take a look at the frame issue on the volare. It's worse than we thought.

I don't have the energy to really fully pursue this right now, and there's no way that I can get under the car with him. but this looks pretty bad to me. This is the left side. He's out looking at the right side now. He says that the top of the frame in the picture shown has some rot too. Just
can't win. Not sure where to start with this. If replacement parts aren't available as we've already talked about, it's finding old pieces I suppose. Or constructing and grafting New pieces into what solid. I have my own MIG welder, but I'm not very experienced. My father-in-law used to do this for a living, but he's in his seventies now and I'm not sure that he'd be interested in laying under a car at this point.

Sigh.

So, here's the Carnage. Driver side is the bad side, for obvious reasons.

I do have a question about these frame rails. On the passenger side, at the back of the rail, it looks like there's an inner piece that's crimp welded to the outer rail. I don't see any sign of something similar on the driver side or the 81 diplomat. This is making me wonder whether or not the car has already had these issues once..... Thoughts?

Glad the surgery went ok. Recovery can be rough. I had a bone marrow aspiration done recently and I was told it was a simple procedure. Man I was sore for a month. BTW, check with Jim at AZ parts for the frame rail. I think he has some 4 dr rails that can be used for the patching the frame sections.

He's doing alright, no complaints (aside from the abdominal pain)
