Oklahoma has a high-water table (correct word to use?) so finding a house with a basement is almost impossible. The older homes that have a basement, the basement is (more or less) at ground level and dirt is piled onto the side of the house, so the first floor is roughly one floor above ground level (if that makes any sense).

I have two different detached two-car garages on my property. The bigger garage is cinder block and just to the rear of my house. The top (roof) of my storm cellar is about 2/5th of the floor of/for my garage. There are only about 5 or 6 houses with a storm cellar within a mile of my house (I’m guessing to the number, not sure how one would find out).

When we get as much rain as we have (this year), my cellar will start to accumulate water. When I looked in it Saturday, there was about 1” of water on the floor. It will dissipate quickly if we can ever get a few dry days. Being the cellar is on the side of garage, and until I get guttering installed, rain coming off the roof will allow a ton of water into it as well (example getting into the cellar, at last minute when raining).

As of today, we have received 57.2” of rain in last 365 days, 18.2” in last 60 days. Or yearly average is 36.5” of rain. It appears we’ve received ½ a year worth of rain, in last 2 months.

That's what gives me some security, my house is built from concrete so it should provide some safety if the unthinkable happens. Obviously the roof framing is wood but it's all held down with hurricane ties, bolt and screws. Most houses around here have basements, just not in certain areas like where mine is. Because of all the rock, blasting is needed for a full depth basement and blasting means permits many, money more (obscure Star Trek III reference), in parts of Rib Mountain or if you go to the far north end of the city where the city just sort of stops suddenly. The terrain changes substantially as you climb out of the valley and it isn't just rocks and boulders, it solid granite.

They showed Oklahoma city on the news the other night with all the water, one house with the earth washed away from under half of it. Not sure what you'd do with that other than tear it down.

We had a local car show and not one FMLbody in the show or parking lot.
There was a cool old Dodge Brothers school bus that had been converted into a motor home and it was very nice. But do you think I took even one picture?

Even though it's in the upper 80's, there still some of that white crap left up on the north side of Rib Mountain. The snow just refuses to give in and let it go. This is from yesterday afternoon, according to the TV station web site.

Was going to a show today but changed my mind. Too hot and humid and some thunderstorms off and on all day.

Would have been a good day for a show (no rain). It was up to 87 and scorching in the sun but, low humidity (mid 30%) made it dang nice if you were in the shade.

LOL (have to laugh anymore), I'll bet there's a car show somewhere around here that I don't know about, on Sunday. Why? Because there's showers and t-storms in the forecast for most of the day, that's why.

Somehow I managed to pick the PERFECT week to have off of work. Nothing like working over a hot engine on days like these.
It's been high 80's to low 90's and really humid all week with hardly any breeze.
Today may be the true scorcher though. When I got up around 5am, it was 78 degrees and 100%, judging by the fog. Rained and stormed half the night, just to give the sun some more moisture to evaporate into the air, lol. They say, close to 95 for a high so,,,,,,,,,looks like it's another good day to spend out in the garage where it's 70 and dry. A/C in the garage but not in the house. Shows where my priorities are, doesn't it?:D Must be global warming. Excuse me, I mean climate change. Oh wait, I know what it is, it's called SUMMER IN JULY.

It hit 100f with 90% humidity in PA today. Tomorrow will be about the same. I have the whole house sealed up with a couple A/Cs blasting. Even cooling the basement shop so it doesn't warm up my floor. Barely managed to keep it under 80f indoors and the air is soup... This Florida crap needs to go back south... or I need to move somewhere dryer.

Not as hot and humid, may be on your way. At 5am Friday it was 78 degrees, went up to low 90's with a 78 degree dew point. Huge storm Friday evening and poof, it was in the 60's and felt cold. Rain and storms yesterday, maybe 70 for a high (and power out here from 11am to 6pm, sucked) after the wind came roaring in at up to 75 mph. Forecast for this week is highs of 78-82 and, they claim, a lot less humid.

Summer has been up and down in Calgary this year. Today is nice, yesterday was grey, rainy at times and a high of 13C (57F). The forecast was calling for snow in the mountains not far from here.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. I'm hoping summer comes back yet. Last few days have started out in the mid 40's and only gotten up to 60-65 for highs, today was no exception. Way to early for what's in the photos of parts of my yard. Leaves aren't supposed to be turning in August, much less falling off the trees already. I've got a bad feeling about all this...................I haven't seen the forecast for next week and am almost afraid to look.

Figure this one out. Today it got all the way up to 59 degrees. Tomorrow it's supposed to be low 80's and humid as all bleep. Honestly, I'll take that over the cold crap we've had the past couple three weeks any day, even with the muggy part.

It was 57° in the house this morning with the windows open and very humid so I closed up the house and turned on the heat to try out my new furnace. It warmed up the house and knocked down the humidity just fine.
One thing I'm not crazy about is the fan speed, I can't believe how fast it is.

I've had my furnace turned on for almost a month now:( Granted, it doesn't run very often, especially during the day, but it sucks needing heat this time of year. Today, different story(!), 84 and sunny. sort of muggy but not excessively.

Turned out to be a great day, I watched the grandson play football and I can say there is a use for his stubborn determination it's in sports.
