Well, at least I don't feel so alone now! I'm going to try the acetone that someone on there said worked great for getting rid of the brown, next time they turn brown. As they said, seems to be the larger sizes. My fronts (225/60R15) have always been nice and white. Rear (255/60R15) not so much. The T/A's were the only tire with solid white letters available, other than the Cooper, so that's what I went with. Seem like good tires otherwise.
Sorry OY, didn't mean to hijack!

Ok! Well, the mystery problem seems to have been solved! :) With the help of all of your suggestions on this forum, the fantastic and patient help of Bud W via many, many PM's, and the seasoned knowledge of my 84 year old mechanic neighbor, OY is running really great again!!
So, what was the problem?
Well.....(drum roll please)....

The damn EGR valve!!

The simple fix? Put a stupid BB in the vacuum line, and it runs great! Perhaps a more extensive repair would work too, but why bother? I don't have to worry about emissions inspection with OY being registered as an "antique", and the way it runs now, I have no complaints! ;) It is such a pleasure to drive now, pulls away with plenty of torque, shifts smoothly with no bucking, and cruises along just fine! The KYB shocks turned out to be great too as it was the ruined tires that were making it ride so badly. So, I still have time to try to get it to a few local shows before it goes into hibernation for the winter. Thanks very much to all who offered their expertise and suggestions to help out! I really appreciate it! ;)
