And just now as were the leading or near it in production of natural gas and oil I think we are heavily dependent on other countries for raw lithium. So much for US independence.

The U.S. is the leading producer of natural gas and oil in the world now and a certain group in this country just can't stand that. I'm trying to skate around the issue without getting political but you know who I'm talking about.;)

My personal favorite is to blame it all on 'the magnetic pole shift'.

I secretly harbor the hope that someone will wonder what that is and actually use some brain cells to read something new and expand their knowledge.

One of my most watched channels on TV is Science Channel and already know what that is, so there!:p Magnetic pole shift, sun spots, solar flares, etc are what cause climate change with humans having only a miniscule (if any) effect on earths climate. As I said, I'v been hearing about global cooling, global warming and climate change for my entire life, especially starting in the early '70's and guess what? It's exactly the same now as it was then overall. You get a couple warm years and then a couple cold years, some rainy, some dry, just the same as when I was 5 years old the year the astronauts first set foot on the moon. Man, I feel old now.....................:(

with the ever increasing output and size of the sun there is little that can actually stop the warming effect. We could stop dumping resources on the ground, quit using some much damn disposable plastic, but the sun is going to fry the atmosphere right off of this pretty little rock.

One thing ive noticed is other then each side of the debate for the most part not wanting to budge an inch is there has been some things in the past, shows giving good info on the whole ozone issues and presented the facts that were easy to understand and accept and there was no agenda behind it.

I tend to look at the bigger picture of like when the sun burns out, it will one day. I tend to look at the hypocrisy of all the so called enlightened wealthy ones who push an agenda where anyone whos been to a third world country and seen starvation and the human abuse first hand and even folks like us, some of us are not super well off, im one, but yet I still find a way to dump thousands in my old shit cars that only a few care about but we never stop to think of things outside of our comfort zone.

Im not as extreme as AJ but respect his views just as we should others views. But its pretty clear we live in a complex world with alot of complex issues that we will never fully understand. But I also see society as a whole getting more and more off center and not just in the way of climate. We at times reflect back to our parents times but they had there problems and issues as well but it seems like it was on a lesser scale but was it really? A topic that weighs heavy on ones mind is that persons perception and reality and should not be dismissed by others as meaningless.

I have come to the conclusion that we come into this world naked and confused and leave in the same manner. So in the big big picture does anything we do really matter? So thats why I really hope there is something far beyond what were doing now.

Wow, did the cat put acid in my am coffee?

When I was a Kid, in the late 50s, winters were long Daymn cold and Deep, deep snow. Every winter was. We have not seen those kinds of winters here for decades.
Summers were sweet with real thunder storms and lots of rain.
The farmers have been complaining here for years now as to how dry it is. And we sure can't complain about being too hot.
So while I cannot speak to global warming, I can speak to our local crap weather patterns.
And every night I check the forecast to see what tomorrow will bring; and every morning they were wrong again. So something is different all right,
Since the Bible prophesied this thousands of years ago, I just go with it.
I'm waiting to see the the sun go dark til noon, only give 1/3 of her light, yet has the power to scorch men with fervent heat.
IMO,Science, falsely so called, is prophesying global warming in an attempt to overshadow the Bible, so that when it happens, they can say; "see we told you so". And then they will present an even bigger lie. And the unGodly, all 7ish billion of them, will believe it. And most of the Christians too.

and I still remember quite clearly being so upset when I was about 7 or 8 years old because I had just read an article (newspaper , popular science, back of a comic... I don't remember where)...this article said that within 10 years we would no longer be driving cars--- we would be flying our cars.

I remember asking my Dad if that was true.

His cigarette in the ashtray with smoke rising and a mixed drink (probably canadian mist and coke) in a glass next to the ashtray. He looked over his eyeglasses at me, yellow-tone incandescent light shining over his shoulder, put his Louis L'Amour western down and told me I was full of shee-ut to worry about flying cars.

LOL ... I still remember that and I still remember the relief when he followed that up and said he would be there to teach me to drive a real car, on the road and how to change a tire.

Little did I know that Mom would teach me to speed-shift, how to steer a car with my knees, and how to feather the clutch on an incline so I could start the car in 2nd gear; dad would only take me driving one time because he didn't know I never learned my left from my right and my turns didn't match his directions-- scared him too much he said.

I'm with the rest of you folks ... The Earth with continue to revolve, the weather to change, and people complain-- I plan to live my life, work on my car, and drive my mopar!

The Jetsons was supposed to be based in 1997; They at least the got the drop down TV displays and face to face video calls right, lol.

Edit: I guess 2062 As they were “100 years into the future”; where did I get 1997 from?! Anyway, still a little off.

Regarding the California product unavailability. I don't live there, but I will take a crack at it. California passed a resolution, or something like that (a piece of legislation that people can vote on) in which any materials/chemicals/etc. that could cause reproductive issues, cancer, or any other health issues had to be identified with a label. See how far the insanity has gone here: https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/. I guess it is a proposition not a resolution. Some products are not so identified, so cannot be sold in California,

Regarding the whole "climate change"/"global warming" thing. When the dinosaurs were running around, the average global temperaure was over 100 Deg. F. No green house gasses, no petroleum products, no cars, no people, in fact, nearly no mammals of any type. But that is conveniently forgotten. It is the height of hypocrisy that the same methods used to prove that the planet is warming up are conveniently forgotten, but not carried through back enough years to prove that the planet was actually a lot hotter before humans even showed up is ignored.
