Hello, can somebody tell me what data plate code(s) designates a roadrunner trim option for the 1980 Volare body" ? The seller claims its a real Roadrunner but the VIN has a "G" code 318 2 bbl engine. I would have thought the RR /RT engines would at least be a 318 4 bbl.?? I want to be sure before driving 8 hours to look at this car for sale.. Heres the first half of the VIN # HL29GA
Thank you

My question is what is the unique black gas cap? I know the super coupe had the special cap but the 80 RR?

Mine has a body color gas cap. Well, it did until I left it laying on top of a gas pump somewhere in Ohio. It has a chrome aftermarket gas cap on it now.

Road wheel- styled spoke.... LOL. More commonly called wagon wheels.

The “Road Runner” is more of a trim option, than it is a vehicle type, when it comes to F-body’s.
The earlier Road Runner’s (B-body) are a different story.

I have seen a few F-body Road Runner’s with a /6 installed.

If you go to https://www.forfmjbodiesonly.com/classicmopar/threads/1980-plymouth-volare-dealer-sales-brochure.542/ and look at the brochure, page/picture #11 (second picture from bottom on first post), and read about the “Volare Road Runner” optional package, the very last line says it comes with a “Six-cylinder engine”.

My experience says most (7/8ths, maybe) Road Runners came with 318 2-bbls – but I have no hard evidence to prove that.
I hope that helps.

Here is my 1980 road runner t-top I just picked up. Its a paint code midnight blue with the tan stripe package and interior. It needs a total restoration but at least I have it and its not going to the crushers. Its a 318-2 car.

The 5.2 4 bbl is/was only available in Cali. and Denver (High Altitude). All 318s sold new in Cali were 4 bbl. Otherwise NA. Our '80 w300 wrecker was a 360 2 bbl sold new in New York. Even the cop cars lost the 4 bbl and 360 was NA. They (M's) were still loved until they (State Police) went to the St Regis Newport that couldn't get out of it's own way. Those were the shortest lived cop cars ever produced.
