78 Aspen R/T 360 engine color?

I have a 78 Aspen R/T with a 360. Everything on the numbers engine block appears to have been black. Valve covers are black with an E58 sticker. All the literature I see says it should be blue.

I have seen some pictures of another R/T with a blue engine.

Anybody have an original painted engine car to provide some insight?

I thought they went to black around 83 or so.

I did see something somewhere that the valve covers may have been black on e58 engines.

It makes me wonder if the cop car engines were black?

Correct color is Chrysler Blue, with black valve covers, for premium engines (E58) V8s remained blue until 83-84. Cop car engines were painted the same as civilian versions of the same engines.

Then there is the decal on the front of drivers valve cover -"PREMIUM" I think
