Many times dealers would order new cars purposely without radios so they can add a lost cost aftermarket radio and mark it up on the bill of sale to make extra cash.

How much to ship the speedometer cluster to 73127 (Oklahoma City)?
How many miles traveled show on it?

Always seemed odd to me, for some reason, to have A/C and radio delete.

Logic agrees with you Aspen500, but as Volare 77 mentioned, they were normally ordered with radio delete. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve installed radios, cruise and other options on new cars at time of sale.

Speaking of which, my ’77 wagon came new as a radio delete car. The dealer who installed the factory radio butchered the job on installing it. The bezel cut like a six-year old did it. Also, they completely left the radio ground wire off (no sign of it ever attached). The radio worked when lights were off, sense it was using the car lights as a ground. Turn on the lights and radio would stop.
