ok, fellas.
first post.

78 aspen (wagon)

so.... i got to take my aspen around the block (first time ever), and my turn signals work. my tail lights work. my brake lights - do not.

i found these two pesky wires with female spades, but no switch. i cant even find a mounting location for the brake switch.

So, i found where the switch goes. It and its bracket are MIA. :\

Im going to post a wanted ad for both, but if anyone has extras from a parts car, I'd be interested in a switch and bracket assembly asap!

Finding the switch is not the big problem. Finding the bracket that goes between the switch and chassis is the big one.

I attached a couple of pictures of ones I have:
The automatic picture is from an ‘84 Gran Fury police (M body) without cruise (HD version).
The manual transmission picture is from an unidentified F body (‘76-80) and it also is without cruise.
Either type will fit. Even a switch with cruise will fit - but will have a pair of unused wires on it.

The ‘78 Aspen part numbers (if you can find NOS parts):
3747020 Mounting Bracket
2926275 Switch, Stop Lamp, Medium Duty
2809033 Switch, Stop Lamp, Heavy Duty (ie: police or taxi)
2947798 Switch, Stop Lamp, w/Cruise Control

A lot of these switches interchanged in other years or bodies with the exception of the mounting bracket - which would be an F & M (possibly J) bodies only.

I will be going to a pull a part this weekend (if wife permits) for I know where there is a switch for an ‘80 Aspen is at. The dash is already removed - so it should be easy to extract.

Got a chance to look, turns out the bracket and switch I remember having isn't for an F-body.

this is beginning to remind me of a scavenger hunt... only instead of house to house its garage to garage

My local parts store has the switch in stock. That's no problem.

But if the bracket has a working switch in it, I'll take it!
