Howdy Folks! It's been a while! I recently purchased a 360 engine and a 727 Torqueflite. I'm trying to verify my engine ID. I believe it to be a '73 360 regular fuel. I'm sure someone can tell me if this is correct. The number stamped below the left side front of the head is: 3W 360 R 4151.

Well, it is a 1973, Made at the Windsor plant(W), 360, passenger car engine (R). The 4151 I THINK is the daily sequence code which means??? Seem like there should be a month/day code as well, between the "R" and "4151". It'd be 01-12 for month and 01-31 for the day (i.e. "1126" for November 26th). All 360's use regular fuel (far as I know).

3W 360 R 4151
3 = 1973
W = Made in Windsor Plant
360 ci
R = Regular Fuel may be used (ie: not a high compression engine)
4151 = Built December 8, 1972 (10,000 date code)
xxxx = number engine built that day. Sense this is not marked (or cleaned off), this number is not known. Really, this number is not that important.

There is also a date cast on side of engine (date cast, but not machined). Sometimes blocks can just sit for months, after being cast. Once machined, they get built right afterwards.

Hey thanks fellas. The date cast (not machined) into the side of the block is 11/8/72. I really had to strain my eyes to read the stampings below the head and to be honest with you, the "3" for 360 was not visible (I assumed there should have been a 3 in front of the "60"). Beside the "3" in 360 the rest of the numbers were all that was visible. I tried coloring them over with a black marker then dusting it off with Scotch-Brite but it didn't help much.
