F body frame repair help

I've got what I hope is a simple question. What gauge steel do you use for frame repairs? I also need to know how the Clutch linkage hooks into the chassis. There is a bracket on the transmission but the other end was just through a hole located just above the frame in the inner fender panel.
I can post a picture of this area later if needed.

At a minimum 10 gauge. Close to 1/8"
Auto Rust Technicians Safe-T-Caps are 11 gauge.
Depending on the location and how you plan on fixing it, 3/16 or 1/4" plate.

I pulled the torque shaft right from a frame of a beat 79 back in 2011. Is the fork return spring what brings the pedal back to rest height? Or will the over center spring do that?
