Got to keep it locked in the garage for 24 hours. I just realized there's paint on my head shot. I guess the hood mask leaked? Ya think!

That looks really good. How many coats of paint you plan on doing and how much clear to make it pop?

Without revealing the secret formula, the black etching/ sealer epoxy is supposed to come through the copper. So the copper is just one light coat- almost a dust coat in fact. That is the set up for the next round which is a ______candy color (2 coats of candy). Finally, there will be 3 coats of clear. That temperature and humidity thing was key. I looked it over before bed and it did lay really nice

I thought about adding some smoke effects or crystals to the top of the copper. I think that is pushing my limitations of abilities- maybe next time. Plus, I dogged this way too long. Even thought about adding the Mattel Hotwheels graphics too. That would too, be scary if I screwed it up.

Well if it was me I would do the spoiler black and hood scoop black and leave the rest of the car copper. Maybe a little black stripes. Looks good to me either way. Nice work.

Nice choice in slotted rims. I have a 15 by 12 and a 14 by 6 set waiting for the end of the painting party.

for the outdoor lighting here is another quick tease. With 90 plus degrees and humidity approaching solid steam for the next few week or so, the candy is setting idle.

Brother I want to ask with complete respect-

Is the color consistent or does it fade in and out? It looks a little like it fades in and out. Like perhaps a spray can?

Can you add some brown to clear to go over it again?

I am just trying to help but cannot tell very well from the pics.

Good luck and best wishes.

I thought that too with some spots. When the light hits it plays somewhat. After inspection in the light, there is a spot near the front driver side headlight and an other near the passenger side. So, I will have to shoot again, but that I figured on. I'm still cleaning up. The air hose was new, but now coated with copper and it has a maple syrup feel. The compressor too' got over spray on it. I borrowed the compressor, so it needs to be cleaner than I got it. On the funny side, as I cleaned the measuring cup that I used to add the thinner, I erased the writing on the side of the cup. It was a dollar store cheap plastic one, so I'll just toss it.

Interesting. I've never heard of a paint process where you leave the primer showing through the base color. Interested to see what sort of effect you're going for and achieve. If it weren't for that intention, I'd say it looks like you need a few more coats of the copper to cover the primer, as at least in the pics, it appears obvious that it needs another couple base coats.

When I first test shot the MU3 copper on my Caravelle it didn't work.
I wanted to do the door jambs and so on before my buddy shot the car
It kept coming out way too light....couldn't figure it out.
Then the old guy at my paint store asked me what color primer I used.
I told him grey..he said that's why. Chrysler (according to him) would prime them with a red oxide primer which made the redness in the MU3 copper.
That's why I wound up mixing a custom copper...

Back in the spring I found an AHB behind a shop. After talking with shop owner (and seller of the AHB) he talked about candy paint "back in the hey day". I mentioned the direction I was going with paint. He looked at me like I was 1/2 crazy. I probably am, but we can make that another thread: " How crazy is Slant6billy?". He did mention the red oxide primer and base yellow for the candy red. He grabbed an old paint book from a shelf. Some of the convention made sense. I painted a single stage years ago and it looked very flat. Same with my 80 Z28. I stuck with convention and was never happy with the so so DIY result. I tried a twist on a car my wife had and I had attempted years earlier on a 96 T bird. It was a little better, but nothing of a WOW factor. So after the little chat and some other research, I figure" O What the hell?". So I am taking things to some risk with this. In the end, I may be sanding off the entire car back down to square 1 metal. It is one of those "wait and see" how it turns outs. Could be crap? Could be cool? That's the fun. Can't ever win if you don't play.
