Picked up a can of the Alclad chrome.
It's supposed to be pretty dang good.
Looks to be the only real chrome looking stuff I've seen.
And chroming plastic parts these days is expensive
If you can even find a place that will do it.

Here's the first victim.
I picked up a couple of Caravelle taillights at a boneyard a while back
The chrome on the lens is toast

...so why not.

I cleaned up the chrome trim and taped the lens. (A Royal Pain)
Hopefully tomorrow I can hit it with a coat of gloss black
Then the Alclad when it's totally dry.
We'll see.......

Don't paint it outside and run and put it into her over @ low temp as a makeshift paintbooth. But you can use said oven to dry any crud that happens to be around
Mike
ps capt this is what you get when you invite me to post more.....Sorry?

No way...
I'm figuring if she don't want my knob twisting crud all over the bathroom
She definitely won't want any in the oven.

On the othertailamp I would wet sand the red part of with 2000 grip sa ndpaper and buff it with polish and a buffer to clean up any crud stuck to the light. Then I would do the silver. If you do it your way and it looks nice you will have to be very careful not to buff off the new paint. From what I can tell the silver is transparent.IF THE BLACK DOES NOT LOOK FLAT I VOTE TO STOP AND FIX IT PRIOR TO PUTTING THE SILVER ON . The reason the spoon looks so good is because it is so perfect on the backside.
Good luck and carry on

Mike.

Thanks for the heads up alfatar.
I did actually clean and buff up the lenses and they look not bad.
This ones my guinea pig so to speak.
I just want to see how well the chrome paint looks.
I get what you're saying about the black being totally smooth
If the black looks looks crap the chrome will follow suit.
The suspense continues for now.
I have to paint it outside and it's pissing rain now.
Gonna bring it to work tomorrow and paint it at the shop
We'll see how it turns out.
I'm practicing up on this one because I NEED to do up a Fifth Ave one
And this one will get me through the learning curve.
Thanks again for the advice...appreciated.
