Got the sheeting all mocked up for my header panel, believe it or not but I can hardly tell the difference in weight between this steel one and the factory piece.

Just have to weld and finish it.

I also finished up the rear firewall. Nice light aluminum sheeting. I also absolutely LOVE my new air riveter.

So I got around to weighing those two header panels.

The old gutted fiberglass one weighs 19lbs with no brackets or stretch metal.

The new steel one complete minus paint weighs 21lbs.

Damn.... :D

Got the door skin tabs mounted.

Fixed the drivers door skin and mocked it up into place. Going to drill holes and rivet it to the tabs.

Passenger side.

Cut out the right front fender opening, will be running a piece of 1/4" round bar on the inside of the opening.

2013-01-27152622.jpg

Filled in the gas door. I'm thinking I might fill in the door handle/lock holes as well.

Worked with aluminum most of yesterday.

Can you believe that there is about 1/2" difference between these two 1/4 window openings?

I think I also figured out where to put my factory '78 D-200 transmission cooler. What do you think?

I did manage to get some more work done today despite a late start.

Got the front gap guards finished, the fender holes filled in and the hood pins mocked up.

I also fitted a piece of 1/4" rod just inside the edge of the fender to give it back some rigidity and to make that edge a little friendlier if it does happen to contact the tire.

Very cool. On average how long does one of these cars last before they get to beat up to race? I'd be afraid that after all the work somebody would plow into me and its back to the drawing board.

Making good progress. With the tranny cooler back there, are you going to have enuf pressure to keep everything circulating so the tranny doesn't get too hot?

There is one Thunder car in my class that has been there about 7 years, if driven correctly they can last a long time. Even frame rails are replaceable.

After I teak the valve body in the transmission there will be pressure to spare.

Slowly but surely.

Did a bunch of little odds and ends tonight.

Pulled the old booster and master out as I will be going with manual brakes.

I had a whole bunch of fun with some old rubber bushings, my vise, some sockets and a heat gun.
