from 78 on, was there a different intake used on 318's depending if the motor used 318 or 360 heads. Any numbers would be great. I have a 78 and a 79 intake but don't know what heads the motors had. Thanks, -Tim

Some of those late 70s very early 80s 4bbl might have had a different intake for 318 if it was on civilian car. After 1982 or so when only taxi and police package could get 4bbl they all used 360 heads.
I have a factory 82 4bbl new yorker m that's available for me to check, I've always been curious what intake it has.

Ok, when they came with 318 heads like you say 78 - 82 they may have had a 318 intake to match the 318 ports. There is a number list I know, I just saw such a list for 72 up through 78 B/RB motors

From everything I can find it seems there were no T.Q. intakes to accomadate the smaller port 318 heads. I guess a bottle neck affect was deamed no big deal

Were there not 318-4V enignes from about 1968 on up? I know I have seen at least one cast iron one (that weighed more than the rest of the engine, possibly), and that could have been adapted to work on a TQ with an adapter plate. People normally use a thick carb gasket anyway, so the thick carb gasket may be replaced by an adapter plate, I would think.

Just FYI, my 1980 Cordoba Crown, and my 1981 Mirada CMX both have TQs on their 318s. The 318-4Vs were only available in Canada, California, and High Altitude cars. If people are sure that the 318s during 1980/1981 had small ports (=NOT 360), then those would be possibilities. Cars are in storage, no where near me, so I can't help with P/Ns.

Ok, I can feed what I know. The 67 through 89 thin wall casting 318 saw its first 4 BBL in 1978, a T.Q.. 273's came with 4 BBL from 65 through 67 and used an AFB 4 BBL carb -not a spreadbore. I think 318 4 BBL were available all over from 78 through 89 with 318 heads and 360 heads

In 1982 parts book there's 3 intakes. One is Imperial, one is 2bbl and 4bbl. So I guess even if civilian cars had 318 heads it still used the 360 intake.

I used a thermoquad (with adapter plate) on this 318 cast iron 4-bbl intake. Yes it does weigh more than the engine! Lol

The one I remember seeing was a square bore. I think all 4 holes were the same diameter, but I only saw it very briefly. Only reason I know it was so heavy was because I tried lifting it to look at the ports, and had a hard time lifting it. It was on a table at a local swap meet, and by the weight alone, it was definitely a cast iron unit.
