Hi,

I am still gathering up parts for the Mirada, and have run into a 360 V8. It is used, has about 160,000 KM (100K Miles approximately) on it. It is from a 1980 Pickkup and is a 4 Barrel. Heads have been redone, engine runs, and has good compression. 4 barrel was changed to a Holley. Engine only is available, no torque convertor or transmission.

I would like to know what I need to do to get it into my 1982 Mirada (currently a 318 2 BBL, A998 transmission)? I believe the engine will physically fit, but I am concerned with:

1. The 360 is externally balanced, and the current 318 is internally balanced. What needs to be done to balance the 360 properly to allow used with the A998 (really, a slightly upgraded A904)? Is it a matter of getting a torque convertor, or flexplate/flywheel, or does the engine need to be torn down and balanced internally?

2. Is the 318's radiator enough to keep the 360 reasonably cood, or do I need to get a new radiator?

3. Is the A998 capable of handling the 360's power? Both engine and transmission are currently stock (with the exceptions noted above for the 360).

If the engine can be made to work with the transmission at a resonable price (~$300), I would go that way. My original concept was to put a big block into the Mirada, but that may be overkill, and very expensive/complex/a big hassle for a street cruiser.

The engine will swap over just like a replacement 318 would.

This will solve your balance issue. About $100. Every other part you have should work just fine including the radiator.

As for the radiator it should hold up just fine. How wide is it? How large are the rows in the core?

Our 1980 Cordoba stock car's 360 is running the stock 26" two row rad that came with the 318 with no issues.

There was very little if any difference between a 360 A998/A999 and a 318 A998/A999 other then the weights on the converter from my personal experience.

I've run 318 A998/A999 behind 360's without a problem.

Fullsize B-body Cordoba's run A998/A999's behind there 360's.

B&M makes a flexplate to attach a 360 to a 318 torque converter. The B&M part number's 10239. Mopar Performance offers a weight kit so the correct weight can be welded to the 318 torque converter to make it externally balanced. The Mopar Performance part number's P4120241.
I don't believe a 318 radiator or transmission in good condition would have any trouble with a mild 360. My dad had a B body Monaco that he put a 360 in to replace the 318 and had no issues with the radiator or transmission.

The 360 driver side motor mount is different than the 318/340 mount.
You can stack washers to fill the gap..........
