Hi everyone,

Ok my friend has a pair of J heads with 2.02/1.6 valves, crank, rods, KB piston/rings and a 360 block he was going to rebuild and put into an A body. His planes have changed and I have agreed to buy all his parts and build a 360 for my 83 Cordoba. I have a 904 and 7.25" in it. I have located a 8.25" rear with a 3.21 ratio I will put in. Now I do not know where to start with camshaft selection. I currently have a sum 6900 can that I was going to put in the 318, I want to stick with stock converter so can anyone recomend a cam for a 360 that will work with the big valve heads and will work ok with torque converter.

Sum 6909 Cam specs I have now - 204/214 .421/.444 LSA 112

Thanks
Bruce

That's not a bad spec cam for the 318, but for the 360 check out the mopar performance DCC-4452761. It has 228/231 deg, 450/455 lift and centers at 112 deg. It is a good amount more than your summit one. I run it in my small block currently and I have almost the same built heads. My next build, however will use a Comp cams Retro fit roller cam with 283/303 deg duration, 513/498 lift into a later LA. I've always wanted to build a non magnum roller cam LA with one of these roller cams. I might feel different afterwards, but I got to go for it

My trans & convertor are stock 904 and I have enough vacuum for brakes, heat Ac controls, I don't have a dash mounted vac gauge, but a handheld for setting my timing and there is decent vacuum for setting the tune

Hi Guy's,

OK what is this cam like I stumbled across like for a 360 .454/.454 lift at 216/216 degrees at 50 thou and 110 LSA advertised duration 272/272 any ideas how that would perform in a 360?

Thanks
Bruce

The 360 I'm building now has 2.02 j heads and it's getting the Lunati VooDoo .454/.475 valve lift. Good for a driver. Check it out.

I found this on allpar from Keith Indy that is quite interesting about cam selection! Can't want to get my cam that slant6billy and MBDale recommended!

"318s get a little radical with a cam larger than .450 lift on 270+ duration, 360s get radical when you get up to .485 and 290+ duration, so a .450 lift and 270 degree duration in a 360 screams, idles pretty smooth and will get a little better mileage without any sacrifices."

Brucenz:

Larger displacement engines are more tolerant of wilder cams. the .450" lift/270 degree duration may be wild for a 318, or .485 lift/290 degree duration on a 360, but .525" lift/310 duration on a 440 is pretty mild, believe it or not.

Idle quality is also influenced by lobe separation angle(LSA). Even with the mild .450 lift/270 degree duration cam on a 360, changing the LSA from 112 down to 108 will make idle lumpier.

I have a Comp XE 262 with KB pistons and J heads with 2.02 valves in a .030 over 340. Has a stock 904 with a 8.25 rear with 2.71 gear all in a 76 Aspen wagon. It runs great on the road and around town. Not a tire shredder, but spirited, fun to drive. Has stock manifolds, 2.25 pipes, Performer intake and a Street Demon 625.

What size carb did you run on you 360 with the DCC-4452761 cam?

Thanks
Bruce

I had a new edelbrock 650 vac secondary. Worked awsome. Also went with a kick down cable set up. Hopefully others chime in!!

I had the 761 in the Aspen. LA 318 w/ Magnum heads. The magnum 1.6 RR increased the lift a little. It had a choppy idle and it did very well with the 3.23 rear and overdrive. I didn't have to worry about stall as that was my left foot. Should do alright in a 360.
