In my quest to get my f body a new rear- specifically an 8 3/4 from a b body (years 1962 to 1970). So I found one complete in a 65 satellite. It is an open rear, but complete drum to drum. I have a 4:10 posi sure grip from a 73 charger. My plan is to put the center chuck 4:10 in the b body 8 3/4. SO, that is the plan. The guy with the 65 rear wants $250.00. I'm thinking if it is not to rusty, I'll go at 200. If it is beat up .... 160. Am I being to bold with my price offer?

I agree with Jasper. I've seen bare housings in average shape fetch $250. If he includes the springs and shock mounts, it's a steal.

Thanks friends. I got a few more leads and low & behold one even being advertized at 150. It is across the bridge, but for 5 bucks in tolls, it may be worth the drive. What sucks is I just got a notice at work for cut backs. Money has been tight for a while and now the big goose egg. Car and parts' money may be on hold for a month or so. I may have to sell more stuff to free up my cash.

250.00 is a good price i sold a housing 10 years ago without center section or backing plates for that price , also i know where you are coming from on spending money my work just told us no overtime and to pinch pennies ,but wait our great president and our democrats are saying our economy is doing so much better only thing that i know that would make the economy better is to whitewash it.

Didn't 65 have the tapered axles with bolt on hubs? That would be a drawback if so!

Two from E bodies? Roadrunninmark is looking for one too- specifically sure grip limited slip posi for his 71 cuda. Post a price and location- he may be willing to work a trade for parts he may have.

Here is that rear end guide again. I know that is on another thread. B bodies 8 3/4 from 62 to 70 are the cloest to fit the fMJ 8 1/4. They are alittle wider at the drum flange, but spring perch is about 3/8" narrower give or take. according to the u tube video, the leafs have enough give to line it up and bolt it in.

Couple of years ago I had to part out an 80 Cordoba that had a 70 B Body 8.75 in it. The springs were pushed in just a little to fit the perches. When I popped one side out, the springs did make a noise like "sprang" when they popped back to wider.

My hope is my springs have that "Give". Currently my car has a 4 leaf spring set. The set I'm going to use have 7 leafs and a shackle lift. Yep old skool look, I know. Depending on what is on the 67 rear, I may get clever with the perch mount to get those 7 leafs to move sideways.

I have 2 E body housings and 1 set of axles. One housing has perches moved to fit F body.
