Hi,

Anyone seen a 1983 Cordoba grille about for sale, my one has all the chrome peeling off, option 2 would be to have it soda blasted and paint it silver, would not look as nice as chrome but a lot better than flaking chrome.

Thanks
Bruce

If you have a lot of patience and attention to detail, the Eastwood Liquid Chrome works fairly well. It's obviously not chrome but it's not bad. Would be better than silver paint. One thing, to make it work you have to use an air brush vs a detail gun. As I said, you need the patience of 10 normal men (or one of me, lol!) and follow the directions to the letter.

If cost is no object (wouldn't that be nice?) you can send it out to be replated.

Yes saw that one on ebay, I considered it but its still a lot of money! Guess they are the first thing to go in a nose to tail, I talked to a chrome plastic plater here in NZ and rechroming plastic is not that successful. I am planing on repainting my Cordoba back to stock color and having the interior done in dark blue leather. (nearly looks black) here it is here http://www.ebay.com/itm/200761999249?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I keep forgetting in addition to the cost, you live at least 8,000 miles away in a different hemisphere (heh-heh,,,,,,,,,,HEMI-sphere).
Plastic isn't really "chrome plated" it's vacuum plated which is more like putting silver or gold leaf on a picture frame.
There is a company that came up with a way to actually chrome plate plastic using real electroplating. It's some type of metalized paint that they can copper plate, then nickel and finally the chromium (or some similar process like that anyways). Guess it's as durable as plating on steel. Kind of afraid to see what it costs though! Think it's the same company that can chrome plate aluminum trim and make it stick and last. Just plating extruded aluminum trim the way you would bumpers (for example) doesn't really work without their special process. Don't recall the name of the place off hand.

I think I will try that paint on chrome, looks effective, I will get the grille soda blasted and then will use that painting process, I am going to restore my car, upgrade the engine, steering, A arms, paint it and will have the inside redone as the sun has damaged the material seats having said that the material is 30+ years old so has done well! I will keep everyone posted as I make progress just takes ages to get things together, I am not as lucky as you guys, I got 8000miles of water to contend with and if I forget something I have to wait for ages to get it over here, grrrr I am jealous, you guys have cool cars and lots of parts, hmmmm mopar gods please drop some parts off to me in New Zealand, anywhere in NZ will do, I will bring my trailer :)

Probably hard to tell in this pic for an example but, I did the tail lamp "chrome" with the Eastwood Liquid Chrome System.

Hi Marty Mopar, not wanting to be rude I decline your grille at $385, I have chosen to re chrome mine with the Eastwood Liquid Chrome System at $82.00 free shipping.

Thanks
Bruce

You should definitely post a thread on your grille makeover.
I'm very interested to see the results and the process.

Me to, was going to get it soda blasted as this is a soft form of blasting and then go through the eastwood rechrome method, will take some time to do but I hope it works out ok, has to look better than flaking chrome that it is now.

Well just so you have a heads up.
I watched a couple of youstooge videos of guys independently testing the Alsa Killer Chrome.

The general verdict seemed to be that it does not look like chrome and turned out no better than my experiment with the Alclad version which is almost the identical process.

Here's what happened with mine.

I remember seeing another kind on Jay Leno's garage that looked pretty damn good. I think it was this stuff.

More complicated but the results look good.

Just sayin.......
