I'm looking at buying the Edelbrock PN 60767 heads for my 360. I have a set of 596 heads that my machinist says are junk (bumps in the exhaust port...low flow). I was wondering if anyone has bought these Edelbrock heads and flowed them. Also, I have been told that the 308 head is much better than the 596. Can anyone back that claim up? My head options are 596, 051, 308, 576, 302, or the Edelbrock heads. Any help would be much obliged!

No being one that knows facts but I'd be willing to bet the Eldy heads flow much better than any of the factory offernings, thats before you do any work to them if that is in your plans. (ie gasket match to a full out port and polish...) M2C...

What are the chamber volume CCs for the stock heads? Some are around 72 cc so going to the Edelbrock will raise your CR, and aluminium heads save weight too.

For what it's worth, here are the SF-600 numbers for my home ported 596 castings (2.02/1.60, 11/32 valve stems):

LIFT I E

0.100 67 57
0.150 99 79
0.200 130 104
0.250 162 125
0.300 189 140
0.350 215 152
0.400 235 160
0.450 253 167
0.500 262 172
0.550 261 175
0.600 248 177

...so yeah, even the cast iron stuff can be made to work...it just depends on whether you really want to sink the time/money into an iron head vs going aftermarket aluminum.

I have heard the best heads out of the box (Without going the W2 race heads route) are the Engine Quest heads. They are supposed to be improved over the Magnum heads without the cracking problem. I have read that they can be had as low as $850 assembled. I don't know how their flow numbers compare to the Edelbrock heads, but they are quite a bit cheaper, and allow the use of stock accessories (If you choose the stick LA pattern intake manifold bolt version). Combustion chambers run 62cc's.
