Thanks - stupid question but you separate then use the socket to unscrew? I thought just separate and then it lifts out? Thanks for the tip on leaving the nut on... mine are currently off!
Yea, I’d crack the ball joint free with the socket, tighten it back down, then use the separator and then use the socket to unscrew the ball joint from the control arm.
Also, if you order that socket from Amazon I mentioned earlier, it’s a 3/4” drive, just a heads up.
Also, start soaking those two big bolts that bolt the spindle and knuckle arm together in penetrating spray. Even after soaking them, they will be a bear to get out.
Yea, the upper ball joint is threaded into the upper control arm, not pressed to fit.
Edit: and no, the spindle is not threaded, it’s just pressed onto the shoulders of the ball joint shafts by the castle nuts. So, don’t have to worry about any threads getting stripped out there.
Finally got it off! Sledge hammer and a jack ... have the new (used) one on - any tightning tips? I feel like it is not going on as deep as the old one... time to rest the back !! Lower nut 1 inch? I need a socket...
