Gem Guards

this might be a little too specific of a topic but i'll ask anyway. Gem guards also known as "bumper teeth" were commonly used by police in New York and Florida. i have this pair off an old Nassau County car but A.) one is bent following a minor accident with the car they came off of. and B.) i do not have the proper brackets to attach these to the car so they're tied on with shoestring. i have gone online looking for a similar pair but these seems almost impossible to find ones made for the M bodys. anyone know the best place to find the right replacement pair?

GEM made them and so did KGT. Is there a number on the back of any of them? That should give you the number within the style number. I think these GEM ones are like 652 or 653 then a dash then a part number based on the vehicle application.

They're all over ebay like a bad rash. But knowing which number to get is the problem. Hopefully there's some kind of numbering on the ones you have.

I think they are more commonly known as bumper guards, so if you are looking for them on eBay, you may want to use "bumper guards" as a search term.

I've seen them on Feebay for years but never cut for an M body. Usually for B and A bodies it seems like. They were popular in big cities that had parallel parking.

I've considered in the past trying to modify pair for my M but just never did. Something like these.

Especially with the pattern of the first one you could get away with taping off the chrome and carefully cutting the sides to match the proper ones. I did notice some on ebay you could see the number stamped into them so that should help a search.

GEM 653-E90 are the correct ones for the M-Body. Not sure if this helps. I purchase a NOS set several years back. They are great. love them.

Too bad the internet is spammed up with BMW parts. Anything with "E90" in it returns BMWs. But the part number helps setting up an eBay alert

thanks for that part number. i do have to wonder if mine are actually from "GEM" since these don't have the pattern on the front. likely generic police issue bumper guards. i've tried bending these back into shape but these things are stuck. no visible markings on these things. maybe someone in NYPD circles would know. these might be JC Whitney or KGT Guards
