What is the difference between the pre73 and posy 73 mopar manual steering boxes. I know the sector was changed fron small to large on the PS box, but what about the manual. Is the difference between the Moog K7100 and K7101( manual and PS pitman arm) the size of the sector?? Can I use an early (pre 1973) A,B E body manual steering box on a 1980 Dodge Aspen if I use the Moog manual pitman arm?? I'm going nuts trying to get relavent info on the net. Some say that the manual box hasn't been changed and will fit all cars up from the early 60s to 1980+. Others say the sector size was increased in 1973 along with the PS box.(Then why does Moog have the same part nr for pre 73 boxes and different nr for the post 73 man & PS box)
The reason I ask is that I am buying a used man. box for early A,B and E bodies and will rebuild it with 20:1 ratio worm gear.I have PS in my truck(1955 Ford F-100 with the 1980 Dodge Aspen graft) now, but it is HUGE and I had to offset my 351 W 2" and use shorty Mustang headers. I am now planning on putting in a blown 331 hemi and I am having space problems with the PS box. Can anyone help me?iow can I use a pre 1972 box with the 7100 pitman arm??( Or any other kind of small sector pitman arm that would fit the Aspen.

I have a manual box from a 69 GTX in my 80 Diplomat, it bolted right in but the pitman arm was differant. I will check later and see if I can get you the part number from the one I used. Here is a pic of my 354 in the Diplomat, it is a tight fit.

Yes, sorry I forgot. Moog K7100 is the one I used, K7101 is for power steering.

I just bought the same box as in your car.Having rebuilt with 20:1 ratio worm gear. Did you have any problems with the timing slots? Or can I just pull out my PS and put in the new manual box with the K7100?

Bought an adapter from Flaming River for a B-body and made it work.
