Hello fellow enthusiasts!
In November of 2013, I purchased a silver 1982 Chrysler Imperial that I found on Criagslis/ebay. The car was located in a suburb of Chicago, being in the vicinity about 9 years and spending its former life in Florida. I am the 3rd registered owner. Impressive for a car of such age. Aesthetically, it was in great shape. Mechanically, it left some things to be desired, but I knew anything I got my hands on was going to take some TLC, money and hard work. The paint and interior were a solid A- which made me very happy.
I've done a lot of engine work on the car, replacing the 2bbl Carter carb that was on it for a Holley. I've had transmission work, electrical system work, all sorts of electric motor repairs, etc... The car sat for 9 years with barely 1000 miles being placed on the odometer. Something that is terrible for an automobile. So all the things that accompany sitting unused were what I have had to contend with.
It is currently getting the a/c system converted, which required replacing everything from the firewall forward. Someone had introduce a foreign substance (likely a stop-leak) into the system and it crystallized everywhere. Such a shame! I've got more work to do but will slowly find the things I need and get it back to being an excellent vehicle again.
The reason I bought the car is because in 1982, I had a Chrysler LeBaron Mark Cross Convertible and admired the Imperials I would see in the dealer's showroom. I was very young (17) and could never afford one, but I was always captivated by the vehicle's striking presence.
If you have parts resources, tips, tricks, ideas, or kudos please send them my way.
Many thanks!
