'89 Diplomat. Installing new gear and done it a few times but forgotten where this little rubber O'ring goes. Is it around the shaft that gear goes over? There is a groove there but it doesn't seem like that's where it goes when I tried it but I can't see where else it would go. Comes in the new package and I didn't see an old one when I opened things up. Maybe it was disintegrated and gone. Thanks. Larry

I believe it's a seal to keep grease from oozing out of the gear housing between the shaft and drive gear. Not sure exactly where it goes on the shaft, probably in the groove (?) Service manual is very vague on gear replacement. Only says "oil seal" with an arrow pointing to the drive gear, but doesn't actually show the seal or where it goes.

Ah, that would make sense although that groove is not at the top of the gear it's close enough. Thank you!

I agree with Aspen500. I has been a while since I rebuilt mine, but I vaguely remember that is where is went.
