What's this wire on my engine for?

There is a "thing" on the top of intake manifold very close to the No. six intake port with two wires connected to it: one bolts to ground on the top of the head and the other goes into the wiring harness. This is on an '80 Aspen and also on an '85 Pickup, both with slant six. Shown in the picture just to the left of the big vacuum hose. Wires are not connected in the picture.

Anyone know what it is?
