    86 Dippy Wiper Linkages

Just another note on the cost issues. In Missawwwssippi, our car tag fees are based on value. Newer stuff costs more. In 2005, our new '05 PT Cruiser tag was approx $500. FastFwd 13 years, and it's $40. My'83 Imperial is like, $32. The real kicker is this is around 30% less than the tags used...

    Chain tensioner

Even when they're identified as a "quiet" gear drive, you can still hear them, but I gotta say, I have always enjoyed the whine of the factory gear drive on my '96 Harley Evolution engine. Just loud enough to add to the mechanical ambience. In the follow-on engine, the Twin Cam, they switched to...

    Headers for J body

I read an article on the early vs later Magnums. The 2 1/8's were said to flow better than any available header at that time, and they agreed it was the best since the early 340 Magnum. I'm sure there's some header that would edge them out now, particularly at high rpm, but not by much in street...

School me on used auto part shopping!

I'd be interested in the actual percentages of cracking. Remember, LA 318 heads had more meat already because of smaller ports and valves, so only LA 360s )heck, count the 340's too) would be the real problem heads back to their introduction, and the total production numbers of them vs ALL 318...

    Headers for J body

Been considering this myself. Guess I'm counter-culture on this one. I gotta look, but I was thinking on slipping in some '92 vintage Magnum manifolds. Gotta see if they'd fit. I'm thinking they will.

Oh that. Thought it was something else. LA 360 heads did the same thing. This has been addressed with aftermarket heads.

    Chain tensioner

I've read many accounts of V8 Magnums running OEM timing sets with over 200K miles on them, but the OEM chains are smooth and slide over the tensioner easily. I initially was going to use one, but as has been mentioned, that nylon would get chewed to pieces by a double roller.

Play your cards right and you can snag an Edelbrock Performer for around $100. Lotta rebuildable carbs as well, TQ's, but also Edelbrock AFB-style carbs (originally by Carter). Whats the issue with Magnum heads? LA 360 heads will make a significant drop in CR, allowing for more boost, but turbos...

    '83 Revival

The teeth might be harmless, but find yourself at highway speed, and have those teeth depart. Bent pushrods, punched rockers, bent valves. It was a mess, but it could've been worse. That's when I learned about plastic gears' potential destructive capability. Went back with new pushrods, replaced...

    '83 Revival

he only reason I mention the plastic timing gear is because I curse their existence, so it's particularly important to know, and address that issue. I've seen what happens when one disintegrates. I don't want to frag my low mileage Imperial engine.

    '83 Revival

I did notice one thing with the RC radiator that I had to adjust for. The lower radiator hose opening on the truck unit is bigger. I had to use the truck hose, as the car hose absolutely would not fit. I'm gonna take the original unit in and have it checked out. Might be fixable as it appeared...

    '83 Revival

You know the funny thing on these carbs, is how we as car buffs tend to get all worked up about certain parts, but they had Rochester 2G's on Mopars in '71, and Qjets in the mid 80's, but they also had Carter Quadrajets on GM products in the mid-70's. Saw one on eBay a while back. Go figure.
