If you're still running the original carburetor, I wonder if you're having an issue with the bowl vent solenoid Are you in park when you're doing that? Could be you're beating up the torque converter

I've done this, where I could have sworn I torqued a bolt right, but because it was hard to reach, I didn't get the right sweeping motion of the torque wrench and the "click" didn't happen until after it well over torqued

Could be weeping out of the head gasket. The head gasket doesn't need to fail dramatically. Have you done any work, like replaced an intake? If it's not the heater core leaking onto the engine, I'd lean towards head gasket
