Cool.

My dad had a '77 Dodge Van which was our race car pull vehicle.
I learned on how Thermoquad's worked first hand with it. Take off the dog house and air cleaner and you could literally look into the venturi's under WOT (wide open throttle).

That (stock and original) 440 didn't care if fully loaded and towing or empty – it got 17-18 MPG pretty much all of the time.

I've heard the secondary fuel pipe works as a garden sprayer when the secondaries open.

I disagree – its more like a fireman's hose at full pressure.

Side note: after the thermostat opens up, you have quite the toasty breeze going through – so not advisable on a hot summer day.
Also not advisable except for on an empty 4 lane road - for watching the TQ work is, um, quite distracting from the road. After all, its not like it has a 440 running at WOT . . . o wait, it is.

Wish it was only a TV movie. Maybe "Nightmare on Dahlia Lane"? lol
Pop quiz: What's the name of the street I live on?
It's gets worse the longer that winter goes on, especially if it stays really cold. With PROPER insulation, the ice dams and icicles aren't nearly as bad. The dormer obviously has improper insulation. Those icicles cost about $10 in natural gas per foot per month:p

The other end of the spectrum for me.
A/C in the summer and its electric kilowatts from the local co-op can be killer.

We have 6 inch wall studs with triple pane windows. Wood floor on 1 inch 4x8s and R30 insulated 12 inch floor joists. All that makes a huge difference on the 2nd floor. I also insulated every interior wall -- there shall be no drafts propagating through this house.

First floor (for the walls that are finished) are 18 inches thick. That also helps things.

More windows on the south - few on the north or west.

Someday I'll post a completed structure picture... someday.

The first floor is fine, walls are 14" thick. Inside to out: Drywall, R12 fiberglass between 2x4 wall studs, 8" concrete block, 1" rigid foam, firing strips with 3/4" rigid foam between them and finally the vinyl siding. Still does feel cold near the outside walls. The floors are concrete (slab on grade, no basement) but even the thick living room carpet feels cold near the walls. It is super quiet on the first floor with the thick walls. Ceilings have R50 fiberglass except where the upstairs dormer is. Unfortunately the dormer is only 2x4 construction with R12 'glass (I assume, haven't torn into it yet)with 3/4" rigid foam on the outside under the vinyl, and the ceiling is also only R12, far as I can tell. It was an add-on at some point in the past (I'm guessing late 1960's) and not built really all that well to be honest.

amazing that even with r50 and the cinder blocks that you have some cold at the floor.
But its just as amazing that it keeps out the majority of the cold and keeps you toasty warm.

Sounds like your dormer was modeled after the top bedroom in 'The Birds'. Maybe a flock is just trying to figure out how to get in when you least suspect it. (as she chuckles at another great movie tie-in).
