Copied and pasted this from my thread on dippy.org, summarizes where I am at with it at the moment:

Well, it wasn't the solenoid either
mad.gif
Maybe the computer? Anybody have a known good one?

Recap on what I have done so far:

Intake gaskets
Set initial timing to factory specs (7 degrees BTDC)
Repaired vacuum lines
Completely overhauled the fuel system (blew out and pressure checked all fuel lines from tank to carb, new fuel filter, new fuel pump, rebuilt the carb and replaced the mixture solenoid)
Complete ignition tune-up (cap, rotor, wires and plugs)

Car starts fine cold and hot, drives like normal as long as the choke is on, revs great at any time and temp regardless of choke position, has good power at full throttle. Once hot and the choke is fully off, it will die when you give it more than maybe 10% throttle unless you go to 85-100% throttle. Will still idle fine all day, will start back up and idle fine with one pump of the gas when it dies.

Ideas? Is it possible the PCV valve is malfunctioning and causing this? Maybe sticking open at certain vacuum levels and causing a large vacuum leak?

Also, the 2 solenoids on the firewall behind the distributor, one is for purge and the other for the EGR. However the sticker under the hood is unclear as to which is which. I am about 75% sure I have the hooked up right, or at least the same as they were when it was running properly, but I am getting less and less certain. Can someone clarify this for me?

Is it possible the EGR valve is messing up and causing this? (assuming it is hooked up correctly)

Okay took a video of what it's doing, hopefully that'll help figure out what's going on. Also, I took the EGR valve off, cleaned it, and verified it worked and sealed okay.

Here are the 2 solenoids on the firewall I was talking about. Not sure which is the EGR and which is the ASRV.

I'm sure the resident experts will chime in (when they wake up).
Personally, I don't have anything like that thing on the firewall of my 87 5th ave.
Or my 79 Dip. (both 318 cars.)

With that lean burn, is there a TPS ( throttle positioning sensor) on the carb. It looks there is one. Two wires going into carb on left side. Sensor is defective, or is not adjusted correctly.
First question: Do you have to take emissions test with car? If not. I woud get rid of all that crap.
Second: Replace carb with early model. 77 on down cater 2bbl will work. Replace distributor with vacuum advance type. Install orange ignition box inplace of standard box.
Third: Most of the vac crap can be removed. Car will run 200% better with more power.

:coffee: I agree.

No tps on this model, there is only the closed throttle switch/idle kicker solenoid. I do not have to pass emissions but I want to fix it like it is. This is the first time it's ever given me a problem. I drove it for several years and it never let me down, started in all weather and temps, and got good mileage (17mpg average, more on the highway). I'm gonna buy a computer for it I think, if that doesn't fix it then I'll probably have to switch it over to regular carb and ignition.

Friend of mine hooked me up w/ some M-body FSM's today too, got a 1981, a 1985 and a 1989. Gonna go through them and see what I find too.

Lean burn

I have to agree with trashing the lean burn. They can be pretty problematic.

But you are either flooding or starving on the carb. I didn't see anything on how easy it is to start after a stall. If it is hard to start I would say flooding. If it starts easy, starving.

Hope this helps,
Dan...
