    Its been a ride

Little update: Dad sent me a text this afternoon saying the car is (finally) going in for a trans rebuild. In addition to the rebuild, they're going to check pinion angle, replace the trans mount, add a shift kit and also put a new, higher stall converter in it. Based on what he (the mechanic)...

    1969 Olds 442

Finally found an issue where being a GM A body paid off. Most everything on this car is "Olds specific" it seems and a lot of things are hard to find parts for. Initially, I had figured being the same chassis as a Chevelle and GTO, parts should be plenty and cheap..I was wrong. Today...

    1969 Olds 442

Been a while since I've updated this, so here we go: FINALLY got the engine back a couple weeks ago. The original block is .040" over, has 2 sleeves, but was saved. Heads also needed a fair amount of work, but they're good now too. Being the Olds 400 G blocks are not well liked, we actually...

    1969 Olds 442

Machine shop has had my block and heads since May. We finally started getting things progressed, then he came down with Covid (nearly died) As it sits now, were on the hunt for pistons. The three choices are off the shelf Egge’s which don't have rings available, custom pistons which will create...

    1969 Olds 442

Not much to update here, block is still in the shop. Currently sitting there with 2 sleeves and .030 over, trying to find pistons to do the final hone. Once I get that back, it'll go to a separate shop for assembly and dyno and from there Ill feel better about getting everything else finished...

    Its been a ride

I guess Ill throw the update in here first, but since getting rid of the car I've actually had more success wrenching on it than I had in a LONG time. Addressed some tuning issues and have it much better, aside from now the electric choke doesn't work. Switched back to the M style booster (had...

    Budget Suspension Rebuild

Finally got a chance to swap out the shims today..it only too about an hour and a half, most of that time fighting with the DS trying to get it lined up with the perch until finally just dropping the axle onto the spring. Going from 6° to 4° seemed to fix it...and I am quite happy about that...

    Budget Suspension Rebuild

Maybe between the top of the clamp and the perch? I'm not 100% though..Ive not even turned a wrench on that car since January

    Budget Suspension Rebuild

They went between the sway bar plate and the perch if I remember correctly. I need to try a different angle shim so I'll be able to verify that when I get back in there and swap em out.

    Mufflers and Exhaust

When the headers went on my AHB, I got the A body kit from Jegs and a pair of Summit branded Magnaflows, and had turndowns just before the axle. The sound of that car is the biggest point of sellers remorse I have.

FOUND Silver face climate control & dummy light/gauge cluster

Literally just went out and checked to make sure I still had it. Let me know.

    1969 Olds 442

I was leaned over on one foot with my hand placement on the phone really weird, then used basic editing tools from Instagram. Didn't change shutter speed or anything like that, just adjusted contrast/sharpness/etc.

FOUND Silver face climate control & dummy light/gauge cluster

I'm pretty sure I have the climate control part, never seen a silver dummy gauge

    1969 Olds 442

Well after a few headaches, I'm down to the waiting game. Finished up the brakes this past week, fixed the lock cylinder, light switch, parking light housing, and dome light along with installing a new steering wheel to replace the cracked up factory wheel. Put the front end down, also...

    1969 Olds 442

That's what my wife did to find the spot in the headliner. I caught a huge wiff when I was up under the car and thought/hoped it was under the seat. Did find a dead mouse and droppings, but that wasn't the only source of smell evidently.

    Brake pressure

The dragging kinda feels like the fronts, but to be honest it's been so long since I've driven it. It felt like slower version of when my booster was going out, and the fronts just slowly started locking up (almost as if there wasn't enough there to retract the piston/pad off the rotors) We'd...

    1969 Olds 442

Been a while since this has been updated. Currently working on finishing the front brakes, installing new booster and master cylinder. At that point, brakes/fuel/light suspension will be done. I've gotta get up under the dash and check out the wiring (mice) as well as change a few bulbs while...

    Magnum Heads onto LA block

If you're referring to the 318 with mag heads, ran (and still runs) great. The 5.9, I sold before ever doing anything with. The 318 (and car) are currently up for sale because Dad has lost interest in the car, and I am busy with a 442. If I had room, I'd get it back because I'm fairly certain...

    1969 Olds 442

Got the dry rotted tire replaced yesterday. After that, we pushed it out to allow the block to be moved out of the corner, and pushed the car back in and up on to stands. Verified its a one legger (dangit) and went around checking lights. With it in the air, and block/heads headed to the shop...

    1969 Olds 442

8k, unless you ask the BMV. I've gotta push it back out of the garage this weekend, stupidly I put it in there and left the block in the back corner. Once the block is dropped off, I've got roughly 6 weeks to get everything else sorted..so says the wife. She really wants to cruise around in...

    1969 Olds 442

I know, not a Mopar.. Carried this over from here: (New project) Dug the car out today and got it home. Spent a couple hours cleaning inside and out, found a nest and 3 mice skeletons. Got it in the garage, and the next thing is to hook a battery up to check the electric, put it on stands, and...

    New project

Bud, you've pretty much put in writing my major dilemma. There are a bunch I'd like to do to it-even "driver comfort" things such as discs all the way around, but I'm treating this as investment first, project second. I know this isn't a car I'll end up keeping long term (even though I'll...

    New project

Update.. bought it. It's getting brought home Saturday, and will get a bath then put on stands to start inventory of things to be replaced (lines, drain fuel tank, shocks, exhaust are the big things I've noticed as little as I've been around it) Still need to get the crank and rods unstuck...
